Chapter 105: I always be with you

LYNN'S POV

"Make sure to speak clearly and face them when they're speaking," Micky instructed as he wired me up.

One look over at Drake and I bit back the laugh building in my chest. He was throwing daggers at Micky and if looks could kill, he'd be dead ten times over. It probably didn't help that Micky was wiring my front side up and taping the pieces to fit between my breasts. And even though he was being completely professional about it, I knew that Drake didn't like where he was at the moment.

"What else should we know?" I asked as my heart started pounding over the thoughts of what wiring up meant. I was terrified to go back to my parents after learning everything. They might have been the parents I knew growing up, but they weren't actually my parents after all. What happens if I slip up?

"Just get in and get out. Don't poke the bear and don't let them know that you know everything. We don't know what these two could be capable of if they feel cornered. Just get that journal and box and get out. Tell them that you're taking Drake around your hometown or something."

I nodded as I took in a deep breath. I can do this. It isn't going to be that hard. Fuck. This is going to be hard. I want to confront them like nobody's business but I knew that if I did, I would jeopardize the investigation. Micky was right, I shouldn't poke the bear because they might tuck tail and get the hell out of town.

"You look like a sexy spy," Luis commented as he sucked on the purple straw sticking out of the foamy coffee drink that he probably spent ten dollars on.

I chuckled, thankful that my best friend was here. He always seemed to know how to lighten the mood and right now, I needed that. Drake and Micky had been throwing glares at each other all morning and I was faced with the daunting task of returning home to grab evidence on them. How did my life go from married to a monster, moving to sunny Florida to start new, and then put in this position? If I told a random stranger on the street my life's story, they'd probably laugh and call me crazy. It honestly sounded like a fictional book or movie, but it was neither of those things. This was my life.

"And you're going to have officers parked out front in case anything goes wrong?" I asked with a shaky voice.

Micky looked up at me and then stood all the way up, grabbing my shoulders. "Don't worry, lynn, I won't let anything happen to you."

I blew out a breath and nodded but when Drake growled, I knew he didn't like Micky's words. I love Drake and hope that when this is all over we can start working on our relationship. The poor guy had some serious insecurity issues and I knew all too well what those feel like. He needs to know that I love him and I'm not going anywhere, but right now, I need to focus on the task.

I walked up to Drake and placed my hand on his chest as I stared up into his mesmerizing eyes. He stared back down at me and neither of us said a word.

"Thank you, again," I whispered, "If it hadn't been for your guy, I never would have known any of this. I don't know how to thank you for looking after me."

His features softened as he wrapped his arms around me and leaned forward to lightly kiss my lips. Then he leaned back and continued to stare into my eyes and I could see all the love he had for me in his gaze. It made my heart thump and my stomach fill up with butterflies.

"I'll always look after you, lynn," he whispered back.

I pressed my face into his chest and hugged him tightly. This man meant so much to me and I honestly couldn't wait to move past all of this and just do us.

"Is there anything I can do?" Luis asked.

I spun in Drake's arms, pressing my back against his chest as I watched my best friend. He was a ball of nerves, moving around the room as he sipped his coffee. It probably didn't help that he was nervous and also pumping his body full of caffeine.

"Yeah, I've got the perfect job for you, pal," Micky replied, slapping Luis on the shoulder.

Luis grinned and straightened his shoulders with pride. He wanted to help so badly and I loved him for that. I have two men in my life that I would never trade for the world. They were my guys.

"Well, what is it?" Luis urged when Micky didn't reply right away.

Micky looked over at me and winked. "You can ride in the van with me and help keep an eye on lynn." Luis's eyes lit up like the Fourth of July as he nodded at Micky. "Perfect. I am the best at doing that."

I giggled into Drake's arm, trying not to be noticed as I watched my best friend. How the hell is he the best at doing that? As far as I know, he's never been in a van during a mission like this. I think he was just so excited he was grasping at straws.

"I know and that's why you're riding with me." Micky turned to us then and gave me a single nod. "You two ready?"

I inhaled a deep breath. "As ready as we'll ever be."

"Don't worry, babe, I'll be there right by your side," Drake whispered into my ear as I gripped his arm and then kissed it.

"I know and that's the only thing giving me strength right now."

"Let's ride!" Micky waved for us to follow him out of our suite and to the elevators.
