Chapter 22
Just one step ahead and we are done. I looked around, Yuan and Yoru were in front of us outside the line waiting for us to step.
“I have a plan, what if I'm the first who will run and I will pull you from here,” she suggested.
“I'm thinking about that, but in my opinion, I'm going first and I'm the one who will pull you from here,” I stated.
“Listen, our classmate will be going to be here for a few seconds, if she passes, I will pull you? It's a deal?” Hailey asked while waiting for my answer.
I took a deep sigh. “Alright, in one, two— three!” Hailey runs and I was about to hold her hand when everything became clear.
My heart starts to pump while my eyes widen and my jaw drops. I don't know if I am just the one who can see her smirk.
She betrayed me. She doesn't lend her hand. I didn't see this before. Everything went black but I'm still running and trying to get her hand.
All of a sudden, someone pulled me from the darkness. It's like a hand that glows in the middle of nowhere.
We fall together because of the force he released. I open my eyes and the students became wild and loud.
I feel like all of my blood crawls up to my face. My heart is beating like a drum while I'm gasping.
“I'm— I'm sorry,” I whispered to him. I'm on top of his body!
His eyes meet mine while it's not that far away between our lips. I became froze for a second.
“Are you okay?” he asked. It's Yuan, the one who pulled me from the base. I glanced at Hailey, her eyes were wide and she couldn't move in her area.
I carefully stand up and help him to stand. “Thank you, and I'm sorry,” I thanked him. He shook his head.
“It's okay, I thought we are going to lose and Hailey didn't get your hand, so I pulled you.” I secretly glanced at Hailey.
She was looking at the ground while her shoulder was slumped.
One thing that is permanent in my head is she betrayed me. She didn't do her promise to me. She said that she will help me but it turns out to be different.
“Alright, seems everyone is here, let's fall in line to organize our team,” Yuan said while standing beside me.
The team agrees and they stood up according to their height. The vice president is now standing in the middle of the stage.
“Alright, it seems like the half of the offense team were lost, let's exchange the roles! If group 4 lost and they have more lost players, then group 1 will be the winner!”
“Now, group 1 will be the defense team and group 4 will be the offense team, our number one rule is don't push the other player, just touch or tap his or her body is enough!”
The voice of the vice president is echoing. Someone gave me a bottle of water. “You should drink, I know you are tired.”
I thanked him for giving me water. I open it and drink some of it and give it back to Yuan.
My eyes widen and I felt like I couldn't find any words to say. He drinks to the bottle! My cheeks are hot.
He looked at me while raising the other eyebrow. “What? Is there anything wrong?” he asked with a bewildered look on his face.
“No— nothing,” I whispered. I turn my back to him while still can't process the happening.
“Alright! Looks like everything is all set! Let's the game begin!” the campus vice president shouted.
One by one, they run after the other one. Some of them are successfully passing while the others are not.
I can feel the burning and fighting spirits of my teammates. They are focused and eager to win.
“It seems like the battle of the teams is going to be exciting! No one wants to lose! However, if we talk about the quantity of the players, group 4 has the most strong members when it comes to using your strengths—” she paused for a while.
“Group 1 was much better when it comes to the strategy, if we are going to compute their points, group 4 had the most lost members while the group 1—” she cut her words.
The loud beating drum was echoing to the field. “While group 1 had the fastest, intelligent, and half of their members successfully passed from the base!”
I became silent and froze for a while. “Congratulations! Group 1 is the winner in this round! Give them a round of applause!”
The students were cheering for us while the other students were disappointed
“The winners may now rest until the event is over!” she announced.
I move immediately and looked for the vacant chair. Luckily, I found it without rushing or running just to find it.
Finally! I'm comfortable with this chair. I watched the other players and students. They are just waiting for the next program.
I wonder how much is that sandwich and orange juice because I heard my stomach was growling recently.
My eyes widen and I cover my mouth because of my thoughts. I forgot to eat breakfast!
I scratched my nape while the other hand was holding the side of my head.
“Hi?” I glanced at the person who speak just to make sure that he or she is talking to me. Like, you know, I'm avoiding more embarrassment.
I raised my right eyebrow. “What are you doing here?” I asked while looking at her blankly.
“I'm sorry about earlier, I didn't mean to do it, promise,” she whispered. I'm just watching her while sobbing in front of me.
“Sorry? It's already done, you did it already, nothing can change the time, the happening, and nothing can change the fact that you betray me!” I yelled.
She moves backward while covering her mouth. Her eyes widened. I assume that she can't believe what I'm saying.
In a blink of an eye, she gasped and gulped to clean her throat. “First of all, I didn't betray you! It's your plan so I decided to do it, but I didn't expect the result!” she exclaimed.
“That's the reason! It's my decision, so why would you go alone without doing the promises that we talk together.”
I shook my head and shrugged my shoulder after saying those words.
“Astrid, it's just a game,” she said while looking directly into my eyes.
“Game? Yes, it's a game, but it's a simple way that proves that you can betray me anytime!” My voice raise a bit loud.
Some of the students were looking at me while some of them are ignoring me.
She looked at the ground and I heard her deep sigh.
“Look, I'm sorry for that, I didn't mean it and I will try my best to make you trust me again.”
Her head was hanging low while walking away from my area. I notice her hands, it's like she was holding something that can't be fall to the ground.
Someone sits beside me. “Are you okay? I heard your voice so I decided to find you,” the familiar voice said.
I turned my head in his direction. “Yes? Maybe? We are just having a misunderstanding,” I replied.
“These past few days, I notice that she became mad at small things, and very emotional when it comes to her fault,” he stated.
“Hailey was kind and very helpful, I don't know why she became like that,” I added.
He was watching the other students like the thing I was doing recently.
“Are you her boyfriend, right?” I asked. He nodded as a sign of his answer.
“Yes, I remembered the days that the two of you were waiting at my room at the exact time in the morning,” he murmured. He started to giggle.
