Anthony.
“Where is Darcy now?” I asked Beta Michael. Since the moment that we had returned from the meeting and I gave her an hour off, I haven’t set my eyes on her.
She wasn’t even the one that brought lunch to me, even though I didn’t see the face of the maid that came in with the food, and also, the tea didn’t taste like the one that she had made herself. It was bland. “I am not sure. I only saw her in the kitchen earlier, but she isn’t there now.” He responded.
I gritted my teeth, hoping she wasn’t far from the pack house. If she is, it would be an issue when the pack, which is yet to figure out what would stop people from acting maniacs. “Check for her all over the house. If she isn’t anywhere around the house, then check her father’s house.”
If she had gone against my words and had visited her father to talk to him, then she would have faced the consequences, and it wouldn’t be as easy as she thought it would be. “Okay, I will get back to you if anything happens.”
He went out, closing the door gently. I heaved out a breath, pushing my back on the chair. It feels so tired and suffocating being this way. I can’t even get close to the people I want to. I had been used to it, but when it hits me hard, whenever I remember.
I closed my eyes. At least the meeting was a success, and I am glad that I let the prince of Eldora know the consequences of what would happen if he should go against his promise and do something terrible. The merge is good, not only for me but also for the pack. Eldora has been known for many things, gold and many more. This merge would only open more doors for the pack, and I look forward to seeing how it goes.
Deep in thought, I didn’t notice that the door had been opened and Bridget had slipped inside. “hey.” She greeted, making sure to keep her distant.
“You came I was thinking that you had forgotten.” I joked. Earlier at the meeting, Bridget had whispered to me that she would be visiting me after staying away from the pack for a long time.
She had gone to the neighboring pack to assist the doctors and treat some of their patients there and only communicated through letters once a week. Bridget has been my friend since she came into this world.
Our world has collided, but because she also gets hurt by my aura, we had to keep our distance but never failed to be there for each other. “Of course not. I have to come and visit you.”
“I missed you.” She commented, taking a seat.
“You should after staying away from the pack.” I chuckled. If she were around, she would have been here with me all the time, even though she doesn’t get closer to me. Unless there is an emergency at the pack hospital, nothing keeps her away from me.
She has been doing it for years, and I hope it doesn’t change. She is the only one I have in my life after Beta Michael, and she holds more significance than him. “So what did I miss?”
“Nothing much.” I breathed.
Bridget began to tell me about everything that had happened to her while she was away. Hearing her talk about it with so much admiration made me smile. She loved volunteering for what she does, even if it took her away from me for a while.
A gentle knock on the door made us stop. “Are you expecting someone? Since I met Beta Michael leaving the house.”
“I am not sure, but let's see,” I answered before letting the other person at the door enter.
Darcy walked in, her head facing the floor. She has been that way since entering the house, avoiding eye contact with everyone. “Good afternoon.” She signed, never facing up.
“Beta Michael had informed me that you were calling for me.” Darcy communicated
I had forgotten about her and what I had told Beta Michael to do. If Bridge hadn’t come now, I would have been fuming about it. “Did you go against my words to meet your father?” I asked her, raising a brow.
“No, I can never go against your words. I was at the maids’ station with the friends that I had made earlier.”
One thing that I had noticed about her was how honest she has always been. She doesn’t hide anything unless she changes during her stay here. “You made friends?”
I didn’t think that she would be accepted around here. “I should remind you that I didn’t bring you into this house to make friends because you do know the real reason why you are here.”
“If you wanted to make friends, you would have been leaving your father’s house during your stay there.” I strike again, not caring how badly she would get hurt by my words. “So you better watch everything that you do around the house. You can go.” I dismissed.
With a cold body, Darcy walked out of my room. “Who is she?” Bridget asked.
I opened my mouth to tell her she was my mate, then went against it. It would hurt her feelings, and I don’t want that. Bridget is fragile and the last thing I would want to miss. “Just some random maid I had gotten, but there is something about her.”
“What?”
“She can get close to me without getting hurt or anything. Shocking, right?”
Bridget didn’t say anything as she processed what I had told her. “Are you sure?”
“Of course, Bridget. It had happened at the coming of age, and she didn’t even get hurt when she fell into my body. That was why I got here.” I revealed.
I had brought Darcy here for my selfish reasons b
