I smirked coldly."Michael, I've spent more on you than this.I'm not even asking for repayment. How dare you beg?"
"And you, Rachel, didn't I warn you you couldn't afford this? Now you beg?"
"Leave, or I'm calling the police."
I moved to open my car door, but Michael lunged forward, yelling, "You won't help? You're this ruthless?"
I glanced coldly."What else?"
"Fine, you said it.You forced me!"His face twisted, pulling a dagger from his pocket, lunging at me."We'll go to hell together!"
I didn't flinch, watching calmly.
The dagger stopped an inch from my nose.Michael froze, feeling a hand on his neck.In a flash, he was yanked back, the dagger flying.
Pinned to the ground, he took punches, blood streaming.
Rachel, stunned, was restrained by a hidden bodyguard.Realizing her plan failed, her face turned hateful, her shrill voice echoing, "You wretch!I won't pay you!"
"I owe you nothing!"
I snorted, ignoring her, signaling the bodyguard.A flurry of slaps hit Rachel's face.
I crouched by Michael."You hate me this much?Want me dead?"
He was like a madman, his fury uncontainable."What else?"
"You thought I loved you?"
"I loved your money.I hated your arrogant and condescending attitude, treating me like a beggar with your handouts!"
"I had to take your charity, kowtowing to you!I wanted you dead!"
He burst into maniacal laughter.
I sighed."Call the police."
As I turned to leave, Michael called out, eyes gleaming with hope."Are you heartbroken?Do you hate me?"
I paused, staring at my shoes.
If he'd said this before, I'd have been devastated. Now, it was laughable.
It took nearly a decade to learn you can't tame a wolf.
So what? When Michael was by my side, his deference pleased me.Call it a paid lesson.
Without turning, I said flatly, "You think highly of yourself."
Michael froze, then roared hysterically.
This time, I didn't stop, driving home without looking back.
Seeing my brother's few remaining keepsakes, I sighed deeply.
Later, Michael was jailed for attempted murder, and Rachel, unable to pay her debts, jumped into a river.
Hearing this, I stood on my office balcony, watching the distant sunrise.
The road ahead is long, but I won't rely on a man's love again.
