“You wouldn’t make Nathan’s parents get out for your dog, would you? They’re elderly. Since you’re so worried about Shadow, how about I take it,and you stay behind?”
Now she panicked and looked to Nathan.
He furrowed his brows and looked at me unhappily,”Olivia, you’re going too far.”
“How could you leave Chloe, a young woman, in a place like this? What if something happened? How would I face her parents?”
I used to think Nathan was a straightforward man who didn’t know how to care about others.
Now I saw—he wasn’t incapable of care;he just didn’t care about me.
When it came to Chloe, he was very attentive, afraid that she would be wronged in the slightest.
I crossed my arms and looked at .”So what do you want to do?”
Without thinking, he picked up Little Black and got into the car. Then he turned to look at me coldly and said,
“Olivia, suck it up.Give your spot to Shadow. Take an Uber. That way, you don’t have to squeeze in the back seat with our parents, and you’ll be more comfortable.” From the backseat, Mr. and Mrs.Carter gasped:
“Good grief, where’d this mangy dog come from? It’s already cramped back here!”
Nathan soothed them:”Don’t worry,Olivia’s not riding with us.It won’t be tight.”
With just one sentence, he directly deprived me of my original seat, and none of my so-called family members objected.
“You want me to give my seat to a dog?”I pointed at myself and looked at him in disbelief.
He looked at me like it was obvious:
“Mom and Dad are old—you want to ditch them at a rest stop?Have you no respect as a daughter-in-law?”
“And Chloe’s frail. How could you expect me to leave her here?”
“If something happened to her, what’s the difference between you and a murderer?”
“I’m doing this for your own good. Can you stop acting like a spoiled princess?”
He even started to complain about me, saying, “If you could drive, would it be so troublesome?”
“I’m already tired from driving such a long distance. Can’t you cut me some slack?”
I was floored.
It’s true that I can’t drive.
Because my family assigned me a driver when I was very young.
When I met Nathan, he said, “From now on, I’ll be your driver. You just need to sit comfortably in my co-pilot seat.”
Now not only did he give my co-pilot seat to Chloe but the fact that I can’t drive has also become an excuse for him to complain about me.
My heart felt as if it had been poured with a basin of cold water, and it instantly turned cold.
He cared about his parents’age,Chloe’s health, even a stray dog.
But me?Not a shred of concern.
He was fine leaving me,a defenseless woman,at a remote rest stop.
I stared at him coldly.”What about me?”
He didn’t hesitate:”You’re a grown woman. Can’t you find your way home?”
“Even a pampered heiress like you can manage an Uber.”
He helped Chloe into the front seat, shutting her door gently.”It’s cold—stay put.”
Chloe smirked at me:”Olivia,I knew you had a good heart.”
“Saving a dog’s life is better than building a seven-story pagoda. Shadow will surely be grateful to you.”
