"Take me with you, Cyrus."
I grabbed his hand without hesitation as he was about to step into the car.
He let me hold him, looking down with an amused expression.
I looked up at him, keeping my eyes as vacant and innocent as possible.
"I don't want to sleep alone. I'm scared."
After a long silence, he let out a low chuckle.
"Fine."
Seraphina’s face darkened instantly.
The three of us got into the car.
I instinctively moved toward the front passenger seat, wanting to leave the back for them. But Cyrus stopped me.
"Posie," he said, his dark gaze fixed on me. "Sit with me."
He was sending Seraphina to the front.
The woman’s eyes looked like they wanted to skin me alive.
But I wanted the front seat too! Cyrus’s daily driver was full of information.
The front seat was more private. It would have been easier to plant a bug or find a file.
Was he doing this on purpose? Did he suspect something?
As the car pulled away, a hand suddenly came down on my thigh.
The heat of his palm sent a shiver through me.
We were in the car. S
eraphina didn't know about our our relationship, yet this madman was touching me. He leaned in, his breath hot against my ear.
"Posie," he whispered playfully.
"Do you know what I did before I came to see you last night?"
"I processed a traitor. He wouldn't speak at first, but eventually, he couldn't take it anymore."
" There was so much blood that I had to change my suit twice. He spilled everything. Poured out his soul like he was emptying the trash."
I turned my head to look into his black eyes.
There was amusement there, even a hint of pleasure, but no fear. This kind of horror was his everyday life.
I opened my mouth and gave him the only answer a fool could.
"Oh... is that person okay now?"
He barked a laugh, kissed my earlobe, and pulled away.
