Nathan's voice was as hard as steel.
"I have every right. Because I've been in love with her since she was eighteen. And I waited, because she wasn't ready, because she chose you. But now she chose me. And you need to respect that."
Brandon looked between us, his face shifting from anger to pale shock.

"Emily... please. We can fix this. I'll do better, I promise—"
"You always promise," I said, feeling strangely calm.
"But you never change. And I'm done waiting for you to change."
"So that's it? Three years, just... gone?"
"It was gone the moment you chose Chloe over our wedding, Brandon. I just made it official."
He stood there for a long time, eyes darting between us, before finally slumping and turning away.

When he was gone, I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding.
"Are you okay?" Nathan asked gently.
"Yeah." I leaned into him. "Yeah, I'm actually fine."
"Good." He kissed the top of my head.

"Now let's get back to our wedding. I think I owe you a dance."
But as we walked back to the reception, I noticed all eyes were on us.
The rumors had clearly started spreading.
