Mrs Wilson sighed, cleared the coffee table, and went to the kitchen to make Sophia some food anyway.
When she knocked, Sophia had just dried her hair. Mrs Wilson handed her the food and milk, taking the hairdryer.
"Miss, why don’t you tell them you’re leaving?" Mrs Wilson asked gently, blow-drying Sophia’s hair.
"If they knew, they’d be nicer to you in these last days!"
"What’s the point of them being nice now?"
Sophia didn’t want pity anymore. She’d lost weight over the year. No one noticed.
"You’re right. Since you’re leaving, nothing matters anymore." Mrs Wilson sighed and left.
Sophia ate a few bites, then took the dishes to the kitchen.
Opening her door, she found Lily outside.
"Sophia, you’re finally leaving!" Lily crowed, hands on hips.
"All my efforts this year weren’t in vain! No wonder you’ve been acting strange lately, not reacting to my moves. You’ve given up!"
"Yes, I’ve given up. Now, move." Sophia was disgusted Lily resorted to eavesdropping.
"So, how much money are you planning to squeeze out of Mom and Dad before you go to support your poor, shabby Harrison family?"
"Sophia, hear this: you’re not a Thompson. You can leave, but don’t you dare ask for anything!"
"I won’t take anything from the Thompsons. If they offer, I’ll refuse." Sophia stated firmly. "And the Harrisons aren’t poor. In fact…"
Before she could finish, Lily grabbed her hand, knocking the dishes to the floor.
Lily kicked off her slipper and deliberately stepped on a broken shard.
"Aah! It hurts! So painful!" Lily screamed, ensuring her foot bled. She looked towards the brothers’ rooms, wailing dramatically.
"Lily, is this fun? You know I’m leaving. Can’t you avoid stirring up trouble these last two days?" Sophia watched Lily’s performance, utterly exasperated.
"It is fun! I’ll tell Mom and Dad you deliberately hurt me! Make the brothers despise you even more!"
"That way, when you leave, they won’t feel sorry for you or buy you a house or car!"
