It's been three years since I turned into a fool, and the Lawson sisters, Chloe and Sophia, are finally grown tired of me. They kicked me out of the old mansion, my suitcase bursting open, stuff scattering everywhere. Shoved hard, I stumbled, my head cracking against the wet, slick steps outside. A dull, awful pain bloomed.
Chloe Lawson looked at me with pure disgust. "Ethan Foster, we've paid back any debt we owed you. Now get the hell out of our lives and stay out!" Sophia Lawson snapped at me, "Why are you still here? Move it! If Lucas comes back and sees you still hanging around, it'll just upset him!" It was pouring rain outside. I was drenched as I stood helpless in the deluge. While they stood under the porch roof, perfectly dry, not giving a damn about what happened to me. All because Lucas said he didn't want to see me living with them anymore, that it made him sad. So they just threw me out. But… they're living in my house… I stayed out in that rain for a full day and night. Didn't get a single glance of concern from them. The blood from my head wound mixed with the rainwater, streaming down my face and blurring my vision.
A Maybach screeched to a halt right beside me, splashing filthy water all over me. The driver got out with an umbrella and opened the door for the man in the back. I looked up. It was Lucas. He was wearing a sharp black suit, looking pampered and privileged. He seemed genuinely surprised to see me.
"What are you still doing here?" Then he waved a hand in front of his nose, wrinkling his face in disgust. "Ugh, even the rain can't wash away that stink of stupidity on you." I blinked slowly, my addled brain struggling to process his sarcasm, before I saw him dart towards the front door like an excited sparrow. Chloe and Sophia came out to greet him, fussing over him for getting a single strand of his hair damp, lovingly drying it with a towel. But I was drenched and shivering, and they didn't care one bit. Lucas grabbed Sophia's hand, whining, "Honey, why is Ethan still kneeling there? I almost hit him with my car! It gave me such a fright." Sophia shot me an icy glare. "Don't worry about him. It wouldn't matter if you had!" Even as a fool, my heart could still hurt. I didn't understand. These two who were once so good to me… why did they become so cruel and hateful whenever Lucas was involved? My head started feeling heavy and fuzzy. I couldn't hold myself up anymore, crawling forward on my hands and knees. "Sophia… Chloe…" Lucas let out a dramatic, "Oh my god! Honey, Ethan is so embarrassing. Such a man crawling on the ground like that." Chloe gently fixed his hair, her voice soft. "A fool is a fool, Lucas. Of course he can't compare to you." Hearing that, Lucas gave a sweet, smug smile. "Honey, let's go inside. It's freezing out here." They agreed instantly. As the heavy door started to swing shut, I panicked, falling face-first into a puddle, swallowing a mouthful of muddy water, but I still begged. "Please! Don't! Please don't make me leave!" Chloe and Sophia's faces tightened with irritation, while Lucas laughed at me without restraint. "Hahaha! Ethan, you're so pathetic!" Pathetic? I didn't know. I only knew my whole heart belonged to the Lawson sisters. I couldn't understand why they were abandoning me. "Don't look, Lucas, it's disgusting." Chloe covered Lucas's eyes, shielding him as they walked inside. I sobbed helplessly, my hands and feet numb with cold. In that moment, I think I finally understood. Chloe and Sophia wouldn't be good to me anymore. After all, nobody could truly love a fool. Their hearts and minds had been completely stolen by Lucas. Realizing that, a rare, startling clarity flashed through my muddled brain, but it couldn't fight the throbbing pain in my head. Everything went black.Previous Chapter
