Gavin publicly humiliated me at our engagement, spewing venom.
"Amelia, if it weren't for you, Isabella wouldn't have suffered! You don't deserve me, you're an impostor. Isabella is the one I'm marrying."
He turned and slid the engagement ring onto Isabella's finger.
Isabella stroked the ring, smirking triumphantly at me.
The room erupted.
My dignity lay shattered.
Gavin's parents roared, furious.
"Gavin! Have you lost your mind?"
Gavin brushed them off, clasped Isabella's hand, announcing to the crowd,
"You might not know – she is the true Wright heiress, Isabella Wright."
"Amelia stole her place for years, while Isabella was suffering."
"Now the real heiress is back."
"So the one I should be engaged to... is Isabella."
The reporters pounced on such juicy news.
"Amelia, is this true? How do you feel right now?"
I looked at the pair. Isabella leaned into Gavin's chest, sneering. Gavin just glared coldly.
I felt a only a slight pang, smiling calmly at the reporter.
"He's right. We were switched at birth."
"Gavin and I dated for years, but since Isabella returned, they've been drawn to each other. Today was just the occasion to announce her return and their engagement."
"And me? My true fiancé is Leo Vance."
The room exploded again.
All eyes turned to Leo. He looked stunned, then saw my cue. He walked through the crowd, took out a diamond ring, and slipped it onto my finger.
Gavin, who'd been enjoying my humiliation, snapped.
"Amelia, have you lost it? The Vances are bankrupt! Leo's a bastard! Even a stranger off the street would be better! Don't saddle yourself with his debt!"
A faint smile touched my lips.
"Mr Payne, that's none of your concern."
Gavin choked.
Isabella snorted disdainfully.
"A bastard and a fraud. Perfect match."
I kept smiling, making another announcement.
"I deeply regret the switch with Isabella. While unintentional, I will make amends. So today, I leave the Wright family. From now on, my actions are my own."
That was exactly Isabella's goal – using the spotlight to force me out.
The farce ended. Tomorrow's headlines were set.
Backstage, Mr Wright slapped Isabella hard.
"Do you know what you've done? Driving your sister out helps no one! Of all men, you steal her fiancé? Have you no shame?"
