Chloe tried to backpedal.
“Mia, you're my only family. Mom and Dad are gone — it's just us. Don't you remember them telling you to take care of me?”
Tears streamed down her face. But even then, she clutched Zach's ring tightly.
Chloe desperately glanced at others, hoping they'd persuade me.
But they wanted me gone, thinking there would be more water for them.
The crowd shouted at me:
“You should've left sooner! And leave the water. It's team property, not yours!”
“Actually, you should contribute something on your way out. But since you're Chloe's sister, we'll let it slide. Now get lost!”
Hearing that, Chloe almost fainted.
She tried to keep me, but Zach pulled her back.
“Chloe, let her go. Once she's out, no one knows we dated. We can be together.”
“Don't worry. We're almost at a base. My parents are big shots there. I'll marry you properly when we arrive.”
Chloe didn't reply, but I knew she was tempted.
Her eyes fell on the water barrels.
Based on the past, that water could last a week if rationed. By then, they'd reach the base.
No one would ever know she had no powers.
Sure enough, after a brief hesitation, she spoke:
“Mia, if everyone wants you to leave, as leader, I can't oppose them. For old times' sake, if you ever need help, I'll assist you personally. Goodbye.”
I smiled and walked away without looking back.
Hope they don't regret it next time we meet.
Following memories from last life, I headed toward a base which was newly built.
