My phone buzzed too.A message appeared, stating I now owned half a house in Lakeview District.
From Eric's reaction,I understood.
He'd always told me his family was poor, that all his wages went to his parents.Feeling sorry,I'd covered most household expenses.

But he'd secretly saved to buy a house!
The system, enforcing us to go Dutch, gave me half.
"It's not fair!"Eric roared."Why don't I get half her house?"
The mechanical voice replied,
"This system applies only to both parties in marriage. The house you live in was fully purchased by the wife's parents, hence it does not count as shared marital property."
Ericgritted his teeth but couldn't argue—the system's power was clear.

The Lakeview house wasn't valuable;he'd only paid the down payment.Half its value was less than my savings.Eric still had the advantage.
Realizing this,he calmed,approaching me.
"See,Sarah?This is called fair.If you'd shared the money sooner,we wouldn't be here."
I lowereded my head,fearing he'd attack again.

Once Eric left, smug,I tried calling my lawyer friend.
But the system warned,
"According to rules, neither party can end the marriage,or they’ll face electric shock."
"As a first offense, this punishment is one-tenth of the full pain."
The next second,an electric current surged through me,it hurted so much like a knife twisting my organs. My hair stood on end, teeth nearly shattering.
Crawling up,I trembled.
One-tenth was unbearable—what would full punishment feel like?
The bedroom door opened.Eric's smug face reappeared.
"I got a notification—you tried to divorce me and got shocked?Hilarious!"
"Unless you leave with nothing, you'll never escape me!"
His gloating crushed me.
Worse,I didn't want Eric's child. But the next day,as I was about to book a hospital checkup online,I was shocked again.
More painful than before!
The near-death agony stopped me from trying again.Eric mocked me via text.
"Serves you right. That's for my precious son."
I clenched my fists tight, cursing myself for marrying Eric in the first place, yet I could do nothibng to end this system.
Then,disaster struck.My mom called,sobbing.
"Sarah, your dad fell this morning. He's in the hospital, needs surgery..."
I rushed over.Mom leaned against the ward wall, clutching her chest—her heart condition flaring.Seeing me,she mustered strength.
I comforted her."Don't worry,I'll pay the fees.I'll take my leave to stay with Dad.Go rest now."
Mom nodded,teary.But after paying,Eric called,raging.
"Sarah, how dare you use my money?Return it now!"
I realized the payment had auto-deducted from Eric's card.
Before I could speak, the system announced,
"Six months ago,the husband's mother was hospitalized. The wife paid and cared for her.According to the rules, the husband must now pay."
"You—"Eric cursed,then screamed—he'd been shocked!
The system added,
"The husband must now go to the hospital to care for the wife's family,or face double shocks."
