Today,I went to work as usual but was borrowed to another store.
Barely in my uniform,a customer arrived.
"Welcome..."
I flashed my practiced smile, but it faded the second I saw my slient.
"I ordered some customized clothes and shoes. Here to pick them up..."
She strode in on stilettos, removing her sunglasses to reveal amber eyes, her demeanor haughty and impatient.
"Oh,and my name's Rhodes."
This was the woman from yesterday—Melissa Rhodes, likely the one those rich kids mentioned.
A coworker shoved me aside, flashing her a fawning smile."Ms.Rhodes,this way."
Melissa glanced at me,a complicated expression appeared on her face.
She pointed at me."I want her to serve me. The rest can handle new customers."
As Melissa entered the VIP lounge, the manager grabbed me.
His voice was tense."She's not someone to cross.Do whatever she says, got it?"
"Ms.Rhodes is Mr.Pierce's fiancée.Keep her happy,and your salary this month's set..."
Mr.Pierce—Daniel?
He played the devoted boyfriend for three years.
Wad he too good an acter that he himself bought it in the end?
I took a deep breath."Sirr,I don't want—"
He cut me off, horrified."Don't want what? She picked you—your luck!Look at Jenny, dying to take your place!"
He gestured to a coworker at the front.
Some people just couldn’t wait to grovel, letting the rich trample on their dignity.
I'm not them.
Learning Daniel never went bankrupt deflated me.
Turned out our vows was nothing, and this fact almost deprived me of my reason to live.
Melissa's impatient calls startled the manager.
He whispered,"Are you stressed out from working too much lately?Serve her well, and I'll request a week's leave for you to unwind."
I needed time to sort this mess.
Inside,Melissawas lounging on a sofa,flipping through a magazine.
The manager had set out the most delicate pastries and a perfectly frothed coffee.
He shot me a warning look before leaving, terrified I'd offend her.
Melissa sipped her coffee, glancing at me.
She smirked, pointing to a pair of heels."Put those on for me."
I crouched, carefully adjusting the shoes on her feet.
But then,"I require kneeling service.Didn't your manager tell you?"
I looked up,meeting her contemptuous,malicious grin.
Recalling the manager's words,I suppressed my anger."Sorry,I forgot."
The shoes'clasps were intricate, and Melissa's deliberate obstructions pushed me to the edge.
Despite my frustration,I maintained a professional smile on my face the whole time.
Finally fastening the clasp,Melissa shrieked,"You hurt me!"
Before I could react, she kicked my shoulder.
Her force sent me crashing back,my head slamming onto the sharp edge of the coffee table.
Dizziness and pain overwhelmed me.
Melissa seemed pleased with my agony.
Maintaining her arrogance, she said,"Know why I picked you?"
"Know why Daniel was with you?"
"It was a bet among his friends—whether you'd be dumb enough to use your hard-earned savings to bail him out."
"Didn't he tell you he was bankrupt?"
She paused,as if recalling something, then laughed like hell.
"Oh,right. Those savings you scraped together? The second he got them,he wired them to me."
"Pathetic.Just $45,0000—barely enough for one of my bags."
"Bankruptcy was just his excuse to dump you."
"But you clung to him, vowing to help him pay off his debts together."
"Don't you find that hilarious?"
Her voice lost its haughty edge, replaced by scorn and fury.
As she wasabout to splash me with the scalding cup of coffee, the door was opened from the outside.
She stopped,but some coffee spilled.
"Fit okay?The clothes and shoes..."
Daniel's voice, warm with affection, cut off when he saw me.
I never imagined confronting Daniel in such a humiliating scene.
