I scoffed at Chloe.“See?Your mom’s the mistress.You’re the bastard who shouldn’t exist!”
“No!Dad said you were the one pursuing him!”
Chloe closely examined the certificate.
James,somehow alerted,rushed home.
“Dad,you said Sarah was obsessed with you! What’s this marriage certificate?”
His evasive look made her laugh bitterly.
“You lied! You and mom are the cheaters, and I’m your—”
James slapped her before she finished.
“James, this is your last chance.Handle this before I return.”
I grabbed my bag, leaving their drama.
Outside,hearing screams and cries,I smirked.
I met Tom at a private café.
He slid a thick file across.
James,post-graduation,taught at Melissa’s high school.
Learning her parents were divorced and her dad an alcoholic,he offered to sponsor her.
Their frequent contact led to an affair.
Just before she was supposed to go to college, Melissa got pregnant. Knowing I was having trouble conceiving, James told her to keep the baby to continue his family line.
For years,he’d been sending money and visited under the pretext of working overtime,a master of time management.
That’s why Chloe never knew her dad had another family.
I pondered over the best way to make James leave our marriage with nothing.
Chloe stopped me downstairs, waiting in dim light, less defiant, more like a stray.
“Ms.Mitchell,I have a question.”
“How can you agree to divorce my dad?”
