My mom said I caused her premature labor, leading to my little brother's kidney failure.
"Girls are a burden—one kidney's enough for you,"she told me.
So,I gave my brother one of my kidneys.

But on the day I died, when my nephew was born needing a transplant, she said to my brother, "Your sister still has one kidney left, doesn't she?She can donate it!"
Yet,when they dissected my body,my mom—the one who hated me most—went insane.
The day I died,my nephew was born in the hospital.
Mom was beaming and waiting outside the operating room, but when she heard the doctor's words, she collapsed.
My brother,James, grabbed the doctor's sleeve, frantic. "Doctor, are you sure? How could my son have kidney failure?"
The doctor pulled free. "We warned you—your kidney disease could pass on to your child."

James staggered, nearly falling, but Mom steadied him.
"Son,don't worry.Call your sister—she's got another kidney. She can donate it to little Tommy."
James snapped back to his senses and dialed me,but no one answered.
"Damn it,Claire,get to the hospital!"he shouted to the voicemail."My son's born,and you,his aunt,don't even care?"

He sent a string of angry messages, too scared to mention the real reason.
Fear crept onto his face. "Mom,what if she has run off?"
"She wouldn't dare!"Mom snapped, hands on hips. "Keep calling."
Dad was about to light a cigarette when a nurse stopped him, joined in,his face dark. "If she doesn't show up,we'll drag her from her office.Where's a girl like her gonna hide?"
Their calls were always about money.
Now they wanted my last kidney.
Since I was little,I knew no one loved me.
A drunk,gambling dad;a greedy,hot-tempered mom;and a brother born with kidney failure.
They poured all their love into James, brainwashing me to donate my kidney.
Mom jabbed my temple, yelling, "If you hadn't caused my premature labor, nothing would be wrong with Jame's kidney. You owe him a kidney—and you'll support him for life!"
I had heard it countless times, but my battered heart still ached each time.
Their commotion in the hospital corridor drew complaints,so they moved to my sister-in-law's ward.
Sarah,James's wife,was still under anesthesia,asleep.
James kept messaging me:
"Claire,if anything happens to my son,I'll make you pay."
"Mom supported you for all these years, and now you think you're too good cuz you have money? There’s no way you could get rid of us!"
Mom sat down, cursing."If it weren't for that cursed Claire, you and Tommy wouldn't have this disease."
But Mom,really?
Was it because of me?
Wasn't it you,obsessed with having a boy,guzzling those so-called"son-producing"remedies while pregnant?
"What's wrong with my baby?Where's my baby?"Sarah woke up,screaming when she heard Tommy had kidney failure.
James and Mom exchanged glances. He stepped forward, trying to comfort her,"Sarah, don't worry, our baby will be fine."
Sarah shoved him away."Get away, you sickly liar! You’re the reason my son’s sick!"
When James stumbled back,Mom charged forward, slapping Sarah."You can't even give birth to a healthy child, and now you dare hit my son?"
She yanked Sarah's hair and slapped her again.
