The quilt was bulging,and what's more,it was slowly wriggling.
I instinctively swallowed a mouthful of saliva,my limbs trembling slightly,and I stared fixedly at the heaving quilt.
A dark object suddenly emerged,and it turned out to be a head!
"Ah!Ghost!"
Lily let out a scream and squatted on the ground with her head in her arms.
My teeth were chattering,but the scream was stuck in my throat.
My mind went blank!
In my terrified gaze,a little boy around six or seven years old emerged,jumped out of bed,and shrank into the corner,staring straight at Lily.
Before I could come to my senses,there was a loud and rapid knock on the door.Lily screamed again in a different direction.
"It's me,the village chief!"
"What's going on?"
The village chief's voice brought me back to my senses.I suddenly lunged at the chair,took out the Swiss Army knife from my backpack,and held it in my hand.The cold touch of the metal made my mind calm down a bit.
I looked at the shadow under the little boy's feet,hesitated for a moment,and then opened the door.
The village chief rushed in and exclaimed anxiously.
"What's going on?"
Then,he took a look at the little boy in the corner and was stunned.
"Tom,what are you doing here?"
Even after the village chief took the little boy away,I still hadn't fully recovered.I couldn't even clearly hear the village chief's explanation.I just vaguely remembered that the village chief said the little boy was his son...
After I closed the door,Lily immediately threw herself into my arms,hugged me around the waist,and buried her head in my chest.
I could still feel her slight trembling.
In fact,I couldn't tell whether it was Lily trembling or myself.
I looked at the time.It was not even one o'clock in the morning,and there were still several hours until dawn.
After comforting her for a long time,Lily's mood finally calmed down.After much persuasion,she was willing to lie back on the bed,but she absolutely refused to cover herself with the quilt anymore.
Not to mention her,even I felt a bit creepy when I saw that quilt.I put the quilt far away on the chair by the wall.
I gently patted Lily's back.
"It's okay.Go to sleep."
She raised her head and stubbornly shook it,her eyes full of panic.
I hugged her a little tighter,trying to drive away the chill and also to reassure myself.I said softly,
"It's okay.I'm here."
"I won't sleep.I'll stay here and watch over you.You can sleep peacefully."
She mumbled in a daze,and soon,she fell asleep.
I tried my best to resist the urge to sleep.I always felt that I had missed something important.
Lily's even breathing was like a lullaby,and my tiredness suddenly surged up.Before I knew it,I also fell asleep.
Knock,knock,knock!
The rapid knocking on the door!
"Tom,are you in there?"
The anxious shout.
I suddenly opened my eyes.After looking down at Lily,who was still sound asleep in my arms,I reached under the backpack beside the pillow,grasped the Swiss Army knife hidden under the backpack,and then gently woke Lily up.
Lily woke up slowly,yawning and scratching her hair.Just as she was about to speak,I made a shushing gesture at her and pointed at the door.
"Village chief,what's the matter?"
The village chief shouted loudly.
"Is Tom in there?"
"Tom is missing!"
