“How did you keep Ethan sleep soundly for eight years?”she asked, her eyelashes fluttering.
“You’d be much happier if you stopped obsessing over this,”I replied.
There was no way I could tell her I was a dream-eating tapir with the innate ability to manipulate dreams.I could only try to persuade her.

But Emily wasn’t hearing any of it.“I’m the special one.He proposed with my favorite flowers. He loves me the most.So why can’t I even do the simplest thing--helping him sleep?”There were tears in her eyes.
“Does any of that truly matter? Is he worth all this?”I asked, frowning as I looked at the girl huddled in the corner.
Emily was already thin, and now, curled up in the corner, she looked like a stubborn little bird.
“It is worth it.I need to prove that I’m special too.”
It felt like I might talk to stone. But seeing how obsessed she was,I finally agreed to a reconciliation.
She was so trapped by love.If I let her get detained again, she might hate me so much that she’d go down the wrong path. After all,the root cause of all this wasn’t her,but Ethan Thompson.

On my first day I back to the hospital,my colleagues gave me knowing smiles when they saw me.The reason soon became clear.
I was inundated from morning until evening.I only had a quick sandwich in my consultation room at noon before getting back to work.Everyone left my consultation room with a satisfied smile.
I gradually realized that the efforts I had put into Ethan over the past eight years, which meant nothing to him, were actually very important to other people.
I felt sorry for myself, but at the same time, the thought of Ethan’s miserable state gave me a strange sense of satisfaction.

When I got to the parking garage after work, ready to drive home,I saw a familiar figure in front of my car.
Ethan was so weak that he could barely stand straight. His face was deathly pale. When he saw me,he actually knelt down and even kowtowed to me.
I was shocked by this scene. After a moment of stunned silence,I quickly went over and helped him up.
Ethan’s voice cracked with sobs.“I was really wrong,Momo. Please,is there any way I can get some sleep?”
For someone who has always been in despair, they might eventually get used to it.But for someone who was once in despair and then suddenly tasted hope, they’ll be constantly tormented by that hope. They can neither escape their predicament nor let go of that glimmer of hope.
I smiled cryptically at Ethan and told him to wait. Then I took out some candies from my car that I had prepared in case of low blood sugar.
“Eat one of these before you go to bed tonight and put a scented diffuser by your bedside,”I said.“Come to me if you still can’t sleep.”
Ethan gave me a grateful smile and then melted into the parking lot.
That night,I paid special attention to Ethan’s dream bubbles. Thanks to the strong psychological hint, his dream bubbles were a bit bigger than before, but they were still much smaller compared to a normal person’s.
I expanded his dream bubbles and filled them with a beautiful dream. As expected,a sharp pain shot through my waist.Helping without proper“medical advice”was considered a violation of the dream-eating tapirs’rules and was punished with pain and new scars.
Ethan would probably remember this dream for the next six months.
