I took a deep breath,reminding myself this was Nathan’s brother,and for Nathan’s sake,I should stay calm.
With great effort, I suppressed my anger and, wearing a smile that didn’t reach my eyes ,I said to Ethan:“Your girlfriend has misunderstood our relationship. Could you clear things up with her?”
Sophie snorted.”Who’s misunderstanding? I saw you sneaking out of the Sterling house late at night,and today,there’s a pregnancy report on your desk.If you’re not using the pregnancy to force your way in,what are you doing?”
“I’m telling you,my boyfriend is Boston’s saint.He’ll love only me forever.”
I smirked.”The Sterling family has more than one son.”
Sophie was laughing so hard that she bent over as if she had heard the funniest joke in the world. “You’re not seriously saying you’re after the guy who graduated Harvard with a PhD at sixteen,built an industry-leading company in two years,and now dominates globally—Nathan Sterling,the Boston elite heir?”
I nodded solemnly,then shook my head.
After all,it was Nathan who tried to climb my bed, and I kicked him out.
Ethan grinned slyly.”Woman,talking about my brother in front of me? You’ve really got my attention.”
Sophie’s face fell. Clinging to Ethan’s arm,she cooed,”You said that only with me is like being at home. Other women are just like hotels—You can stay there occasionally, but you’ll eventually come back home.”
Ethan patted her head soothingly.”Right,you’re home.But I’m feeling like a hotel stay.”
Sophie’s expression dimmed,but she didn’t dare to say anything more.
Ethan shook off her grip,licking his lips as he sized me up.
“You look familiar.Have I seen you at some club? I don’t like women with makeup.Take it off,let me see.If you’re not a total mess,Sophie can be the main wife,and you’ll be the side piece.As for the kid,get an abortion first. After all, Sophie hasn’t had one yet—it’s not your turn.”
Hearing these words, Sophie perked up,pouting.”Ethan,I don’t like her.”
Ethan patted her back.”Be generous.I’ll make sure you’re always the main wife.”
After placating Sophie, he frowned when he saw me standing still.
“Why are you still here? Hurry up and take off your makeup .”
He smacked Sophie’s butt.”Go and help her.”
Sophie nodded obediently,her eyes gleaming with triumph as she looked at me.
“Claire,you’ll be calling me’sister’from now on.As long as I’m here,you’re just a concubine!”
As she spoke, she led the young hooligan girls and surrounded me, pressing me to the sink. Water flooded my eyes and nose,choking me.
Half-opening my eyes,I caught Sophie’s malicious glare. My heart skipped a beat, and I used all my strength to break free, dodging a basin of water she swung at me. The water hit the sink, steaming with white vapor. It was boiling.

I dropped all courtesy,calling the police.
“Hello,911? There are people here committing burglary.”
Ethan’s anger faded when he saw my unblemished face,his eyes nearly popping.
“A natural beauty—no makeup.”
He smirked magnanimously.”Now,I’ll allow you to kiss me.”
I stared at this idiot,thinking Nathan needed to teach his brother a lesson.
Sophie’s eyes blazed,but she forced a fake smile.
“Since we’ll be family,it’s not too much to ask you to serve tea to me,the main wife,right?”
With no tea handy,a mean girl handed me a water bottle.
Looking at smug Sophie,I recalled our first meeting,when she fearlessly chased off a senior harassing me. Now, just because of a man, our friendship as best friends had so easily turned into hatred. I took the bottle,unscrewed it,and,under Sophie’s triumphant gaze, I doused it all over her from head to toe.
“Ah!”Sophie shrieked,losing it.
Just Before she could go berserk,the police arrived.
