“Why would I joke?She’s my sister…”Jake stopped,noticing my hand.
He rushed over.“How’d you get hurt?Who did this?I told you to move back home, but you wanted the‘lively’neighborhood. Now you’re injured!”
I raised a brow.“Your girlfriend stabbed me.”
Jake exploded.“What?Lily, you hurt people here?My sister?!”
“I just…I just…”Lily stammered,speechless.
Then the police arrived—finally!
Behind them were two property managers, saying the alarm went off and neighbors complained about the noise,so they called the cops.
I realized Lily’s attempt to smash my safe must’ve triggered its alarm system.
The police,seeing the crowd,were stunned.“Are you filming a drama?”
I gave a wry smile.“Sometimes life’s wilder than fiction.”
We were all taken to the station, and two vans were needed for the crowd.
After my hand was bandaged,I explained everything to the police.
The officer sighed.“This is the third time this month. What’s with these incidents?”
He lectured the streamers:
“You broke into a private home and tried to steal property!”
They deflected:
“We didn’t do anything—Lily did it!”
“Yeah,we didn’t touch a thing!”
Lily shouted,“You scum! You told me to smash, handed me the scissors and hammer!”
“Preliminary estimates put damages at$200 million, excluding emotional distress,”the officer said.“You’re all liable.”
“Why?!”Lily snapped,her eyes defiant.
She argued,“Their family’s stuff will go to their son.My boyfriend’s sister’s property is his,so it’s mine!”
I laughed.“What’s this,feudal patriarchy?”
Jake,stone-faced,added,“And why assume you’d still be my girlfriend after this?”
“You’re dumping me?You said you loved me—was that a lie?”Lily flipped the script.
“Me,lie?You lied!Your name,age,family,past—nothing’s true!You just wanted my money!”
On the way to the station,I’d filled him in,and he was livid.
Lily had targeted him from the start, played the innocent sweetheart, fooling him completely.
