He froze.
“Miss Parker, take care!”
Emily, in sunglasses, left without a glance.
Mark grabbed the manager. “What did you call her? Miss Parker?”
The manager shoved him off. “What’s wrong with you? That’s our heiress. Her family owns the building!”
“Emily Parker, sole heir of Pinnacle Properties!”
Mark was floored, then his eyes lit up and chased after her, frantically calling. Emily answered.
“What?”
“Emily, I was wrong. I shouldn’t have dumped you. Let’s get back together!”
“Back together? Scumbag!”
“Mark, you trampled on true love. You deserve to lose everything!”
She hung up, blocked him, and Mark collapsed on the street, sobbing.
He searched for me, but I had moved with my daughter to another city.
Laura set us up perfectly—money, an elite school for mhy daughter and a big house for me, all in a cozy, smaller city.
I jumped at it. Money, a house, no loans, no debts—my life was serene.
Mark couldn’t find me. Later, he learned the real Anna Harper existed, but I wasn’t her.
He realized I was a total fraud. He tried reporting me, but we had never taken a photo together.
He had no solid proof. He went to confront Laura, but she was abroad.
Now, Mark was alone, penniless, his company was bankrupted, drowning in debt. Creditors hounded him everyday.
The last I heard of him was on the news. My daughter and I were eating dinner, news was on in the TV
A blurred figure appeared under the headline: Springfield Man Jumps After Investment Failure.
A reporter interviewed passersby, saying he was Mark Davis, who betted all his money on a piece of toxic land.
It was him. Cornered, he ended it.
Good. His death tied up loose ends, sparing us his vengeance.
I was finally at peace.
Epilogue
I’m Laura Bennett, born into wealth. In my youth, naive and radiant, I met Mark Davis. He swore he loved me, vowing to protect me with everything.
I fell for it, too innocent, giving him my all.
He wanted to start a business. I begged my parents for connections and funds. He succeeded.
Seeing his ambition and ability, they approved our marriage. But my dad warned me, “Men like Mark, once they succeed, their couldn’t control their greed.”
“Laura, always save a fallback for yourself.”
I didn’t agree but followed his advice, placing my people in the company.
We married, and Mark became the perfect husband everyone praised.
I thought I had a happy marriage. But returning from a trip with our child, I found the house spotless.
I was surprised by his change. Mark said I worked hard with the kid, so he took over chores.
A man who never lifted a finger, suddenly so diligent? Suspicious.
The nanny was on leave, and Mark did all the cleaning himself?
I grew wary.
The next day, the nanny returned and found an earring in the master bathroom.
I knew. He had brought another woman home.
My husband cheated on me. I didn’t want to believe it.
Checking the security footage, I confronted the girl, returning her earring.
Her shock turned to defiance.
I knew she wasn’t as simple as she appeared to be. Digging into her, I learned she too was a wealthy heiress.
Just like that naive me years ago. How could I let Mark climb over me, only to scam another rich girl?
So I found Sarah Thompson, a sharp, abandoned woman with grit. We teamed up, driving the scumbag to ruin.
Unexpectedly, Emily joined us, her help invaluable.
I was once naive, but my child became my weakness. I wouldn’t let her have a heartless, philandering father.
During the divorce, Mark eagerly gave up his right over out child’s custody, desperate to chase his “big leap”. He didn’t know I had woven myself the dreamy net he fell into.
When it shattered, he woke up. He tracked me, even finding our child’s new school, planning to fly over.
I couldn’t allow that. I tipped off his creditors to move fast.
He’s gone. I’m finally free.
