My sister had bone cancer. Without money for chemotherapy, she lay in bed, suffering excruciating pain. Desperate,I called Nathan Pierce, begging him to transfer five million dollars immediately, promising to agree to his divorce proposal.
He asked coldly , "How will you beg for it? On your knees?"
His first love - Lily Carter - threw a bank card at me disdainfully as I knelt. “You'd better stop wearing denim skirts. That was my style in high school. You may look a bit like me,but you’re just a pale imitation…”

Holding the money tightly in my hand, I rushed home, only to find my sister had already passed away..
Later, I also passed away. Overcome with grief, Nathan pleaded, "Don't die, please don't leave me." …
My sister was in the late stages of bone cancer, unable to afford chemotherapy.,her clothes were soaked with sweat from unbearable pain.
Watching her trembling legs and matted hair plastered to her face,  I felt my own legs shaking. What could I do?
I was completely out of money. Summoning up my courage, I picked up my phone and dialed Nathan Pierce's number. In those few seconds of ringing, it felt like an eternity. I churned over countless pleas in my mind. —Nathan,I’ll agree to divorce if you transfer five million dollars now.
—Nathan,please, I'm at my wit's end.

The moment the call connected, I grasped the glimmer of hope and blurted out,  “Nathan, please—”
A woman’s mocking laugh cut me off shattering my words and hope.

“Claire Bennett, how long are you going to pester my Nathan? He’s asleep beside me.He was insatiable last night—don’t disturb him.”
With that, she hung up the phone.
It was Nathan’s first love,Lily Carter.
How foolish I was!
Even if Nathan was a lifeline,I couldn’t grasp it.
It would break the moment I reached out for it.
He wasn't a lifeline at all, to begin with.
My sister fainted from the excruciating pain.
I walked  over, gripping her pale, skeletal hand. It was cold,  lifeless. Covering my mouth,I cried helplessly.
I’d wanted to cry during the call, but only now, with her unconscious, did I let my tears flow.
Sobbing silently,  tears streamed down my face. Fate's relentless wheels ground me down, never halting to let me catch my breath,to ease my pain.
Since returning home from the hospital last night, she hadn’t slept, writhing in pain. Now, finally motionless, she had fainted from the pain. I crept onto the bed and lay beside her.
I traced her brows, fearing I’d never get another chance.
“Sis.”
I pulled back.“Sorry,I woke you.”
Her furrowed brow told me pain had roused her.
Fainting from pain, only to wake up to it again. Couldn’t fate take my life instead of hers?
“Sis,we haven’t slept together since you got married.”
I pinched her nose.“From now on,I’ll sleep with you,okay?”
Grace smiled weakly, nodded, and then softly nagged me. Get regular checkups.
Cry less.
Don’t mix too much chili in your food—it’s bad for your stomach.
Anxiously,I cut her off, saying she could remind me at during  mealtimes.
But…
We both knew there’d be no“later.”
After dinner,I tucked her in and left to find Nathan.
I didn’t care about dignity anymore..
I just wanted Grace to live a little longer.
I found him in his office, writing, not looking up.
His first words cut through the air like ice: ‘Are you here to ask for money again?’
I started to speak, but he interrupted.
He smirked.“You refuse divorce because you can keep asking for money as my wife, right?”
Tears fell as I shook my head.
No.
I didn’t divorce because I thought we could mend our broken bond.
We’d loved each other so deeply.
Calmly,I said,“Please transfer five million now,and I’ll agree to divorce.”
His cold voice rang out:“How will you beg?”
“On your knees?”
