I packed my things and made my way towards the gate.
Tom stood there,glaring venomously.
As I got closer,he suddenly lashed out and kicked me hard.

“You little wretch, thought you could abandon me for the Harpers?I know your game!”
I clutched my stomach, pain nearly knocking me out.
“Quit pretending!Get up!”
Sophia roughly pulled me up,pinching my face viciously.
“Hmph,Mariam Harris, guess what? You’re the real Harper heir, but with a few well - placed tricks, you’re out of the picture!”
“No harm in telling you—you’re as good as dead. Not just you, your birth parents will go down with you.The Harper fortune will be all mine!”

Her face twisted, she pressed a cloth to my mouth.
My vision blurred and darkened, and I collapsed.
When I regained consciousness, I found myself in the backseat of a car.
The driver was on the phone, casually discussing how he was going to sell me to a trafficking ring in a remote area.

Sophia was ruthless,but I wasn’t helpless.
She thought her drug had knocked me out cold, but my severe congestion—worsened by wading through floodwaters—blocked all smells.
My faint was a ruse.
I checked my phone, ensuring the recordings of Sophia’s and Tom’s words were safe—future evidence.
Gripping the phone,I brought it down hard on the driver’s head.
He slammed the brakes, lunging at me.I struck him again, and he slumped forward, unconscious.
Outside, the landscape was desolate,no cars in sight.
With no choice,I walked toward the city.
After an agonizing eight - hour trek,I collapsed, exhausted.
A car approached.I flagged it down and climbed in.
In the car,Sophia’s last words echoed.
She’d ruin my parents and seize the Harper wealth.
She was targeting them.
I decided to use my meager maid wages to rent a place near Mr.Harper’s company, applying as a janitor to stay close and uncover Sophia’s plans.
One day,as I was leaving the office restroom,I saw Sophia holding something, waiting at the entrance.
Mr.Harper emerged,and she greeted him.
I hid behind a pillar,eavesdropping.
“Dad,you work so hard.I grew this tea myself—perfect for a pick-me-up!”
“Aw,our Sophia’s growing up,caring for her dad!”
“I’ll drink it!Go home,it’s pouring.I’ll have the driver take you!”
Their conversation ended, but the tea in Mr.Harper’s hand gave me a bad feeling.
During his lunch break,I snuck into his office.
His desk held the half-drunk tea.
I took some leaves to test at a hospital.
As I reached the door, footsteps approached.
Panicked,I hid behind the sofa.
The door clicked open.Not Mr.Harper—Sophia!
