All the villagers were dealt with in one night.Amy Smith entered the tunnel and set up the sacrificial formation she had seen, and then threw away the sacks.
When David Brown returned home and saw the blood all over the ground,he realized what he had done. After returning to the house,he locked the door from the inside and hanged himself. The chopper on the ground was just something that Amy Smith had forgotten in the house.

This was the whole process of the incident.I also understood that the reason why I saw the illusion in the rain was because I had drunk the well water that still had some sleeping pills in it.
And Lily Thompson had been drinking the mineral water she brought,so she hadn't had any hallucinations.
Later, many of the family members of the deceased in the village also had various hallucinations because they had drunk the well water.
The hallucinations they had were mostly seeing the deceased and beginning to repent for their negligence of their parents over the years.A sense of self-blame permeated the whole village.
The case was closed, and Amy Smith was sentenced to death.
I buried David Brown's body and erected a tombstone for him.The name on the tombstone was:My Dearest Friend,David Brown.

After erecting the tombstone,I sat in front of David Brown's grave.Thinking of the hallucinations I had encountered before, tears couldn't stop flowing from my eyes.
Although David Brown was a bit simple-minded,he had never forgotten me over the years. If it wasn't for this incident, when would I have thought of him?
And Amanda Smith,my childhood friend, later suffered from depression.Although I knew these things had nothing to do with me,I still felt self-blamed.
I took out the group photo of the three of us that I had found in the photo album of the ancestral house, and I cried bitterly.I didn't know whether the hallucinations I saw before were because of the well water mixed with sleeping pills or because of the guilt in my heart.

But one thing I knew was that from then on,I would live on with the wishes of the two of them.
After Amy Smith was sentenced to death,I obtained Amanda Smith's belongings through some connections.
Time passed quickly, and many years had passed since this incident.
Tonight, there was a criminal investigation that Lily Thompson needed to deal with,so she wasn't at home.
I got up and went to the kitchen to cook with great enthusiasm. One delicious dish after another was cooked by me and placed on the table.
In the past, when I made the"homecoming meal"on the Ghost Festival,I always made enough for one person, and that was for my grandfather. Now,there were two more sets of chopsticks.
I returned to the bedroom.Looking at the three yellowed group photos on the wall,I showed a faint smile.
Although I knew very well that this was all superstition and false, for some reason,I always felt that this could make me feel a little better.
In fact, the superstitions passed down by the older generation didn't aim to seek substantial help. Most of them were just for psychological comfort and a proper outlet to vent their emotions. But one thing was certain, there were no gods or ghosts in this world. The so-called ghosts were just the self-blame and guilt in our hearts.
