Chapter 8

With the air of the mistress of the Summers family, she arrogantly directed the servants to dig up the roses in the yard.

"Here, here, and over there! Dig them all up."

"Madam..." The butler looked at me hesitantly.

Bailey also noticed me standing nearby.

She came forward with her hands on her hips: "Sorry, but Simon said that everything in the Summers family is under my management from now on."

"Whatever." I replied indifferently.

Seeing that she didn't get the reaction she wanted, she simply grabbed a shovel nearby and charged at me.

"Aria Jenkins, you bitch!"

I quickly caught her hand and slapped her across the face.

Bailey covered her face, staring at me in disbelief: "You actually dare to hit me?!"

I rotated my wrist, my tone neither cold nor warm: "I've wanted to do that for a long time."

"You!" Bailey Wright pounced into Simon Summers' arms like she'd found her savior: "Simon, she hit me!"

Simon Summers was unusually calm, looking at me: "The master bedroom has better light, let Bailey stay in that room from now on."

I nodded: "I'll go tidy up."

I didn't expect Simon Summers to follow me upstairs.

He locked the door behind him and spoke through gritted teeth: "Aria Jenkins, how long are you going to keep this up?"

"If you don't want Bailey to move in, just give in to me a little, and I won't let her stay. Okay?"

Simon Summers desperately searched my face for any sign of weakness, even the slightest would do.

But he was disappointed.

Now my face no longer showed any trace of the jealousy I once felt, instead it was so cold that even he found it unfamiliar.

He only felt an emptiness in his heart, and his emotions inexplicably grew more agitated.

"Aria Jenkins, you said you didn't like Bailey Wright! You said you wanted her to leave!" Simon Summers grabbed my arm like a madman.

"Simon, you're hurting me! Let go!" I struggled hard and shoved him to the ground.

His eyes were red, but suddenly he burst into wild laughter.

"Aria Jenkins, you'll never leave me in this lifetime!"

With a "bang," the door was slammed shut.

Simon Summers left with Bailey Wright.

The rose garden in the courtyard had been razed to the ground, with only some rotting flowers left in the mud.

The butler cautiously asked: "Madam, shall we replant them?"

I shook my head bitterly: "No need, never again."

A week later, neither Simon nor I had contacted each other, and he hadn't returned to the Summers Family home, though news about him occasionally appeared in the media.

During this time, I gathered all the mementos of our relationship.

Since I was leaving, there was no point in keeping any of it.

When the workers were moving things, our wedding photo accidentally fell.

I crouched down to stroke the photo frame, the picture tearing in half right where our hands were joined.

Just like Simon Summers and I were about to go our separate ways.

The butler watched it all with a pained expression.

"Madam, do you want to throw all these away?"

I looked at the increasingly empty room, with no trace of nostalgia left.

"Throw everything away." I handed over our wedding photo: "Burn this one."

The butler hesitated for a moment, but still did as told.

Unexpectedly, Simon Summers actually came back.

He reeked of alcohol and could barely stand steady.

Upon seeing me, he lunged forward suddenly.

His embrace was so tight I could hardly breathe.

As I struggled, I felt something wet against my neck.

I froze in place instantly.

The sound of crying was particularly prominent in the silent night.

"Aria, I'm so sorry, can you please stop being so cold to me..."
