Chapter 112 Dresses and a Stalker

We entered one of the dress shops and Ember's phone went off. She rolled her eyes. "He's trying to bribe me now."
I bit down a smile. "With what?"
"He offered to do my chores. For two weeks," she snorted a laugh. "At the rate he's going, I might offer you up. Sorry."
I sputtered a laugh. "Tell him it will cost him two months of chores."
Her brows quirked. "You know, he's desperate enough. You sure you're up for it?"
I shrugged. "If it gets you some time off. We can use it to our advantage and hang out."
"He'd lose it." She shook with laughter. "His own plan backfiring? Heck yeah."
Ember quickly typed in a reply, before hooking her arm with mine and steering me toward the back aisle.
"All the expensive ones are back here," I sighed.
"I know," she shrugged. "Kayn is paying for yours."
My eyes bulged. "No, he isn't."
Ember withdrew a credit card from her handbag and waved it in the air with a wide smile. "Oh, he's totally paying. He sold a few of his art pieces for an attractive amount a while back and never had a reason to spend it."
"He shouldn't spend that much money on me." I waved at the dresses. "These cost more than a wedding dress."
"If he had his way, you'd be buying one right now."
I flushed. "That's just crazy."
"Yeah," she waved me off. "He's totally crazy over you."
"You sound like him right now. You know that, right?"
She sputtered a laugh. "We're nothing alike."
"I used to think that too. But that's a Kayn line you just threw."
She sighed, glancing at me. "Are you going to pick out a dress?"
"No." I crossed my arms. "I'm not letting him pay that much for a dress I'll only wear once. Besides, isn't the theme pirates and mermaids?"
"Yeah, it is. But you think anyone's going to flop in there with a tail?" She wiggled her brows, smirking. "Well, besides us. We could just go au natural."
I shook my head, laughing. "Imagine that."
"Anyway, if you're not picking out anything, I'm picking a dress for you."
"I'm not going to wear it," I insisted. "Come on, Ember. This is ridiculous."
"Okay then. I'm picking you a dress." She eyed me. "And I know for a fact that you'll wear it."
"Good luck with that."
"No problem," she grinned, flipping through the dresses. "I can't wait to tell you I told you so."
I caught a glimpse of a price tag on one of the dresses and cringed. "You really shouldn't."
"Ooh, this one will look gorgeous on you!" Ember pulled a long, white shimmering dress from the rack. "And it will fit your royal status."
"It looks like a wedding dress," I pulled a face.
"From a human perspective, I guess," she sighed and placed it back. Just then movement to the left of Ember drew my attention and I caught the same man from the other day, dressed in the AOUB suit and sunglasses disappearing behind a large shelf of shoes.
I nudged Ember in the arm. "We have a stalker."
"Darn it." She scowled, twisting around and her small fists clenched by her sides. "Who needs to get a good beating for interrupting a girl's shopping."
"It's that guy from the AOUB again," I spoke in a low voice. "The one that followed me and Kayn."
"Hey!" Ember shouted at the shoe rack, drawing the attention of the other shopgoers. "Why are you following us?"
"Ember," I hissed in a low voice. "Don't do that."
"Why not?" she turned to me. "They have my sister. What they are doing is illegal. Whether she's human or not."
"I know, but you really want to tick them off while they have her?"
Her brows knitted together. "I'm just so tired of all this."
"I know, Em, but we can't take any chances." I pointed at the shelf. "Hey, that color is stunning."
Ember's eyes widened when she noticed the dress I pointed out. "Ooh, Kayn's going to love that!"
I peered over my shoulder at a woman still gaping at us and offered her a smile. "Jealous boyfriend."
The woman's expression darkened and she nodded in acknowledgment.
I breathed out a relieved sigh, nodding with a stiff smile at Ember as she rattled on about something to do with shoes that would look great with the dress.
I, however, couldn't shake off the idea of us being followed. I kept glancing around, thinking I kept seeing movement in the corner of my eye. Why were they following us?
