Chapter 4

Terry stared at the folder like it might burn him and stumbled backward.

The color drained from his face as he gaped at me.

"Eula, what did you just say?"

His voice shook.

"Termination? Property division? Are you fucking serious?"

"What did you expect?" I met his gaze coolly. "Did you think I was just throwing a tantrum?"

"I refuse!"

He slapped the folder from my hand, sending papers flying across the driveway.

"I absolutely refuse to end our engagement!"

Asha immediately dropped to her knees, pretending to gather the papers while playing peacemaker.

"Sis, please don't do this. Terry just made a tiny mistake. He still loves you. Don't throw everything away because of me..."

As she spoke, she shot me a venomous look.

Terry ignored her completely, staring at me with naked panic.

"Are you really throwing away three years just like that?"

"When you humiliated me at my brother's engagement, did you think about our three years?"

"When my father demanded I apologize to you over Asha, did you think about our three years?"

"You knew how much I despised her, yet you snuck around with her and gave her everything I wanted. Did you think about our three years then?"

With each question, his face grew paler.

"I—"

His mouth opened but nothing came out.

"ENOUGH!"

An angry shout cut through our argument.

My father stormed out of the house, my mother trailing behind him.

He didn't even glance my way, going straight to Terry with an apologetic smile. "Terry, ignore her. She's just spoiled and throwing a tantrum. Don't worry about the engagement—I won't let her do anything stupid."

Then he turned to me, face thunderous. "Eula! Look at yourself! Apologize to Terry right now!"

My mother grabbed my hand, whispering urgently. "Eula, please, stop making a scene. Your father's furious. Just apologize for now."

Looking at them, I felt ice spreading through my veins.

These were my family.

When I was betrayed and humiliated, not one stood by me.

All they cared about was saving face and protecting business interests.

Asha gathered the papers and pressed them into Terry's hands. "Terry, don't be upset. My sister doesn't mean any of this."

Terry gripped the papers so tightly his knuckles turned white.

He took a deep breath, like a man about to jump off a cliff, then looked up with wild desperation in his eyes.

"Fine, Eula. You want to break the engagement?"

His voice was raw.

"You want to cut all ties with me?"

My heart skipped a beat. Something was coming.

He turned to my father, each word deliberate. "Mr. Silver, I refuse to end the engagement. In fact, I want to move up the wedding date."

I stared at him in shock, certain I'd misheard.

"If you agree, the merger my family suspended will restart tomorrow. Plus, I'll personally add another ten percent investment."

Terry stared at my father with cold determination.
