Chapter 30

For weeks afterward, my wounds refused to heal properly.

Aria came daily to change my bandages, her big eyes always shining with concern:

"Alaric, please stop fighting. No one bothers me anymore."

I nodded half-heartedly, then casually lifted my shirt, revealing my abs.

"Here too. Got scratched here."

Fact: persistence pays off!

I deliberately failed so I could repeat Year 12 with her. She finally stopped rejecting me.

"If after A-levels you still like me," she paused, "we'll be together."

Her voice was soft as honey, eyes damp and slightly red, but her gaze was deadly serious.

My heart nearly exploded.

I sinned…

Couldn't help myself—stole a quick kiss on her soft cheek.

She froze completely. Her eyes grew redder. Silent anger she wouldn't express.

I just grinned like an idiot.

Good thing I'd decided to repeat the year.

Otherwise I'd spend every day worrying about her getting bullied.

After that, I stopped slacking off.

Aria had excellent grades. I needed to get into the same university.

After A-levels, I brought Aria to Thornfield Manor.

They already knew about her.

For the first time in years, I swallowed my pride.

Told them I only wanted Aria, promised to fall in line, begged them to treat her decently.

They agreed.

But the very next day, every werewolf in the house made her life miserable.

Finding her sitting alone on that massive sofa, looking so small and broken, I stormed upstairs and confronted my mother.

"You and Dad are the perfect Alpha-Omega match. Did you ever actually love each other??"

She glanced disdainfully toward the door, voice sharp:

"I never did. What makes a human think she deserves it?"

I understood then—they would never change.

And during those three years of high school, they couldn't have been ignorant. They'd simply used Aria to manipulate me.

I went downstairs—they hadn't even set a place for Aria at dinner. She sat quietly in the corner.

Fine. Then no one would eat.

I flipped the entire table, shattered priceless antiques. They called me a traitor to my blood. I grabbed Aria's hand and we ran.
