Chapter 139: In Her Heart And Mind

'I am so tired but I don't feel sleepy at all," Sapphire said softly as Alexander ran his hand through her hair gently.

'Should I turn off the light?" He asked but she shook her head at him.

'No, don't do that. I am not sleepy, I am rather stuck in an awkward angle between tired and hyper active, and you should go to sleep until I close my eyes because you are the one who forced me into this state."

'Forced you?" He asked incredulously and she nodded nonchalantly. 'That is both our faults, you kissed me first, remember?" He asked with a raised brow but she only glanced up at him with a mock surprise expression.

'Really? You are going to blame me for that too?" She asked. 'I was just being a good wife."

'How about you continue being a good wife now that we are in bed? It won't be as tiresome as it was in the bathroom." He told her and she moved away from him at lightning speed, wincing a bit because of the pain she felt.

He tried to touch her but she raised her hand to stop him from touching her.

'No thanks! I would appreciate it if we kept our hands to ourselves. I shouldn't be a good wife now too, I am not sure if I would be able to get out of bed tomorrow, lest do anything."

'Staying in bed is fine too. I can stay with you, being a good husband and wife," he replied and she scoffed at him, rolling her eyes in amusement and fake irritation, a smile playing at the corner of her lips.

'No can do too," She replied but moved closer to him, wrapping herself in his scent and embrace.

They laid there in comfortable silence for a bit, just reveling in each other's presence and feeling of being next to each other.

'Xander," She said, raising her head to look at his face and he stared down at her.

'Yes?"

'When did you know that Sheila is the kid's mom? Have you always known that the kids aren't mine?" She asked and he stared at her for a while before shaking his head, she laid her head on his chest and continued talking to him.

'Then why didn't you tell me what you knew when you discovered it? I, for the briefest moment, thought that you and Sheila were in cahoots, like you both did it to make fun of me," She said and he smiled at her. 'But I knew that you cannot do something like that. I have enough faith in you to trust you to never do that." She added nuzzling her head into his hand which had resumed playing with her head, the feeling of it was nice.

'I would never do that to you," He told her, it was more of an assurance than anything else and she raised her head to peck him on the lips.

'I know," She said, looking straight into his eyes, the love she saw there was authentic, it was real and it would forever make her breathless since she knew that it would remain there, it was there to stay.

She could feel it in her heart and in her mind.

'Marcus informed me about it on the day after you knew about your grandmother's involvement, I was planning to talk about it when we get home_"

'That's why you kept asking me if I was already done for the day," She said in realization, her hand that was fiddling with his robe paused before resuming.

'I really wanted to take you home since the beginning of that day but yea, that was part of the reason too.

Then you knew about your grandmother and we knew what happened then. I couldn't bring myself to ask you about the kids too, you already had a lot of things for your brain to process_"

'It was just a thing, Grandmother was involved in the scheme, that's all."

'These issues that can be described simply usually have the most effect on us. I knew that it was too big of a news to handle that day, you don't think so but I know that," Alexander continued, leaving no space for argument in his talk, not that she intended to argue.

The man is right.

She moved and lay down right on top of him so that she could see his face very well but he found herself focusing on his bathrobe instead, her finger fiddling with it.

'We also had to discuss Sheila too but she ended up coming the next day. We had to deal with her issue too but at that moment you left the house, demanded that I stay away from you and keep my space." He explained and Sapphire glanced directly at his face.

'Were you hurt when I did that?" She asked and he raised a brow at her. 'You know, when I pushed you away."

'I understood your situation but I have to admit that it stung a bit," he told her and she pulled an apologetic face.

'I am sorry, Alexander. I suddenly felt insecure about the status of her relationship. I mean, I understand that we had our own lovely moments but I can't really say that I am your wife, not your fiancé nor am I your girlfriend.

Except from the marriage certificate we signed and the kids you felt attached too, there was nothing else in it.

The kids you were attached to were suddenly yours to begin with and their mother, your ex-fiancé, who you used to love a lot came knocking at the door begging back for your love.

Old feelings can be re-ignited and divorce papers are a lawyer away, it would not be a problem to you.

So I just wanted to use that time to get used to not having you even though it scares how deep I have fallen for you and it makes me depressed when I think of going on with my day without you.

But who was I kidding? I couldn't stop loving even when I tried very hard," She asked with a sarcastic laugh at the end, he tried to answer her but she raised her index finger to her lips, making him snap his mouth shut.

'But then I saw you standing there at the door with eyes ablaze with the intense jealousy you felt when you saw me get out of Nick's car and I realized that those thoughts were what pushed my fears to the forefront of my mind.

Why would I even think that you would even divorce me to begin with? You just asked me to walk down the altar with you barely two weeks ago, you would go back on your words so quickly.

You are a man of your words and you gave a lot of words, I should have at least believed in that." She said and he stared at her before pulling her into a sweet and gentle kiss.

'Sheila can go to hell, Sapphire. She is getting none of the kids and we are still going on that trip."

'Thanks a lot for being patient with me, Alexander."

'It is my pleasure." He replied and she giggled before pecking his lips again, her eyes alive and free.

'Who is this sweet husband?" She asked, still giggling, she was behaving like a teenager who was on a first date with the guy she likes but she didn't care.

She loves Alexander too, so that must count.

'Can you be a good wife to the sweet husband, Sweetheart?" He asked, trying to trap her into a kiss but she shook her head.

'No, we should sleep," She said and shook her head when he tried to talk. 'We should really sleep. . ." She trailed off when he started kissing her neck.

It was going to be a long morning because it was definitely past midnight.
