Chapter 123: Holding On

The company and all its nonsense is none of her business, she didn't see the thrill in sitting at one desk from morning till night and going through tons of excruciating tasks like analyzing, calculating all the other jargon you have to do. She prefers going on tours, taking pictures and looking good, that is the good type of stress and the reason she chose modeling as her career.
Now everything would change very quickly if she didn't do something about getting involved with Oliver physically, she had always had deals with him but there was never evidence to link him to her.
The man is on edge himself and Venita had no idea why, he is the calm type who prefers to use the charming gentleman font to cover his evil ways, he never threatened her so much and so openly before, but then again, there had never been time they had to deal with Alexander and Zayn.
She should seek shelter in many places, she should have back up plans upon backup plans, there is a good chance that Oliver would stab her in the back and he just told her that square in the face. She had learned the hard way never to take his words as a joke.
She stared at her phone before reluctantly dialing a number on her phone and it rang for a bit before it was connected to the receiver.
'Hello," She said in a crisp voice.
'I thought I warned you never to call me, we are not buddies," the female voice she had become familiar with over the years replied with its usual curtness.
'You should keep your eyes out for Ace, he is going off lane. I think he had become scared of them," she warned.
'You should keep an eye out for your grandmother, as far as I am concerned she is a dead woman," The answer was simple and she understood the message quickly, it also sent a chill down her spine and her hands got sweaty.
She is merciless.
'A move has been made. Tell Ace that he is a dead man if he does not proceed with the plan, he doesn't want me to get across to him does he?" It was a rhetorical question but she hummed anyway. 'Tell me to send me my cartel. Your contract with that company in Miami has been finalized, that would be good enough of a comeback. Get your ass ready and move fast."
Venita felt more than heard the click when the call was disconnected, she stared at the sky.
‘I am sorry mom and dad but this is the only way I can survive this place, she is on a hiatus and I love myself more than others. I hope you don't hate me for that.'
That was the only thought that kept ringing in her mind.
------------------
Alexander head straight to the CEO's office when he got to SJAY, Sapphire sounded the same way she did when she was telling her about what happened to her some years ago, her voice sounded dead and flat with a bit of tremble, he couldn't help the worry and the fear that clouded the back of his mind.
He hopes that she didn't do anything bad to herself, there would be no way he would be alright if she isn't okay, so for her physical health and his own mental health he hopes that she is still holding on.
He pushed the door open and felt his heart sink when he saw her sitting on that chair, motionless, almost lifeless, the phone was still placed on her ear. The small movement in her facial expression made him know that she registered someone's entry.
He got closer to her and lifted her head to stare straight into her eyes, the hurt he saw made his heart squeeze in pain and sorrow but beneath all that, he also felt anger, the most burning desire to end who caused that in her.
'Sweetheart," He called her softly and her eyes finally lost the forlorn look and registered on him, there was no warmth in her eyes, just pain, sorrows and fatigue.
'Xander?" She asked with a dry but quiet voice and he hummed, nodding.
'Yes I am here," he confirmed and at his confirmation, the waterworks began and tears flooded her cheeks, it was almost like the thought that he was coming was the only thing holding her together.
'It hurts, Xander. I don't want it to be true. Xander I can't take it anymore, it would kill me if granny really did that," She said in immense agony as hot tears leaked through her eyes, there was a chance that she was not aware that she was crying. 'It hurts so badly. How would I fix this, I mean the rest of them could do the worst to me till they get enough but gra. . ."
Her words got stuck in her throat and he placed her face on his chest, hugging to himself, he knows that she needed time to get over that fact that it is possible that her grandmother had actively hurt her and also understand that she wants someone with her during that time, he is more than obliged to be that person.
'Should I take you home?" He asked her after a while and she nodded without a word. He is glad that it is not daytime. Sapphire would have hated it if her employees had seen her at her weakest.
She nodded and he pulled her up, making her rest most of her weight on him. He wrapped her hand around her waist to steady her and carried her bag that was on the table. He was about to turn when he stopped and stared at her.
'Should I take the flash drive?" He asked and she stilled, obviously weighing the pros and cons of taking it along, it must be to her disadvantage but she decided to take it anyway so with a nod of her head he took it and led her out of the place.
Whatever she had seen in that drive is driving her mind into an overdrive, she must be overthinking and it is best if she pictured everything and wonder about the extent of the possibilities than live in an obvious doubt. She did that when she started getting the hints that Oliver was dating her best friend, she intentionally ignored the thought that was gnawing at every corner of her being and where the glaring truth which cannot be denied sent her still close up on her till the moment.
Whispering sweet and comforting words to her to ground her to reality and stop her from slipping behind the steel bars her mind created to lock her up forever, he got her into the car and drove her away from the company. He made sure to keep mentioning her kids and her friends and happy moments that they had had.
He got her into their room without much effort, dropped her bag and the flash drive on the bed before leading her into the bathroom, it didn't take long before she got her into the bathtub. He poured the cold water all over her head and that seemed to wake her up a bit, she turned to stare at him and he nodded at her. He wanted to tell her how much he understood her and would wait for her to calm down.
He got her out of the tub and dried her hair before leading her back to their room, he made her sit on the bed and got her clothes.
'I love you Sapphire, always remember that," he whispered to her, kissed her forehead, then stared into her eyes with eyes filled with warmth, worry, care and love. He didn't expect any reply from her as he made her change into her PJs and got her to the bed. He wanted to get up to get her bag from the bed but stopped and turned to look at her when she held his hand.
'I love you too, Xander. In the midst of all this chaos in my mind, this is the only thing I know is a fact, our love for each other," she said with a small but confident smile and he had never felt more relieved to hear her talk.
He stared at her with a content smile as she drifted into dream land, hopefully, one free of nightmares.
