Chapter 46

Anastasia watched as the maids scattered around the kitchen to prepare dinner. Alpha Draco had declared a celebration to be gathered tonight, considering now that the rogue enemy and the culprit had been captured. Everyone seemed so happy that the pack was now safe and away from danger.

However, Anastasia still felt so uncanny and uncomfortable. Perhaps it was with the fact that she still felt unsure of the whole situation. Wendy was considered the culprit and yet it didn't feel right to assume it was her. Anastasia felt helpless, she had no voice in this situation and Alpha Draco wasn't listening to her either way. He was already blinded with anger and hatred. Tomorrow, something dreadful was about to happen and she wasn't sure she was ready to witness it.

Even if Wendy was truly the culprit, Anastasia didn't feel it was right to punish her like this. Death was final and if she died, there would be no chance for her to redeem herself. Sure, we all make mistakes and and commit sins, but we all deserve a chance to make up for it and change for the better.

Anastasia sighed. Perhaps Marcus was right. She was too naive and innocent. In this world, she was nothing more but a mere human mated to an Alpha King. Perhaps she didn't deserve the title of being a Luna.

"Are you alright, dear?" she heard Amanda's voice sounding in her ears. The old woman looked at her with concern. "You seem bothered."

Anastasia nodded her head in defeat. "I know I should be celebrating but I just feel so confused. Everything's happening so fast and I can't slow it down."

Amanda chuckled, trying to make her feel better. "I understand what you feel."

"You do?"

"When I first witnessed a rogue being beheaded, it didn't feel right too. I used to be a young girl, just like you. Eventually, you'll realize this is the way it is in our world. We are different from the humans and I believe it's time you adjust to your surroundings and blend yourself in this world. I know you can do it."

"And what if I can't?"

"You have to. You are our Luna and this is your fate."

Was this truly the dead end? Everything her parents taught her, to treat everyone with kindness, that even sinners are victims and deserve a second chance. Did she have to throw it all away and forget it?

"Maybe you're right, Amanda," she sighed. "I have to accept things the way they are."

"Don't be troubled, my dear. There are reasons why these things are happening to you. Eventually, you'll realize what it means and it will just sink in."

She nodded. "Do you think.. after all this, I should take a break from everything?"

"If that is what you wish. Whatever you want, it will be arranged for you. We want you to be happy."

"Thank you, Amanda."

"My pleasure." The old woman bowed in front of her Luna but then just as she was about to leave, she stopped mid way. "You know, personally, I don't think that Wendy girl is smart enough to plot a breakthrough across these borders. She wasn't an intelligent child for as long as I can remember. But perhaps I made a wrong judgment for the first time." She chuckled.

A beating drum sounded in Anastasia's head. She was sure she was right all along. Wendy was a bad woman but she seemed not that evil to make her Alpha suffer and even plot to kidnap the Luna. It could be that there was still a traitor among the pack. Whoever it was could be left unknown forever if she wouldn't let the Alpha know. There was one thing she worried about, however.

Would Draco believe her words?

"Thanks, Amanda," she replied, quickly standing up and heading to the Alpha's office. She had to try, at the very least. As soon as Anastasia opened the office doors, she caught sight of Alpha Draco seating behind his desk talking with Beta Edward.

"Luna," Edward greeted with a bow.

"Hi."

"What brings you here?"

"I need to talk to Draco — alone."

"Sure," he replied in an instant, going out of the room in less than a minute.

"What worries my dear Luna?" Draco asked, taking a sip of his wine. She could see he was already celebrating without even thinking hard if this was too good to be true or not.

"I think you shouldn't celebrate yet. It's possible there's still a traitor inside the mansion right now and it could be anyone. I don't think Wendy's the culprit."

A frown knitted on the Alpha's face. "What are you saying? She tried to hurt you even before this happened. Do you expect me to believe she didn't do this to hurt you again? To take you away from me?"

"Look, I know she hates me. But there's a difference between a planned revenge and an unplanned one. When she attacked me in the comfort room, that was a very stupid attack. If you think about it, I was training and you were right outside the room, she knew she was going to get caught but she wasn't thinking straight because of her anger. But this time.. everything that happened, with the rogue involved, was carefully planned. I don't think you're making the right decision."

"I want to believe you, sweetheart," he replied with sincerity, finally standing up and nearing her. "But I saw the evidence with my own eyes. I saw the letter found underneath her pillow and it was addressed to Wendy. I won't let anyone involved in this crime get away without severe punishment. I made a mistake before and I'm not gonna do it again."

Anastasia sighed, feeling his hands holding her head and tilting her face to look at him. "You're making a mistake," she repeated with a warning. "And if I'm right, this isn't over yet."

"It's over. I have him locked up and he won't get away this time."

She bit her lip, getting irritated. "Why aren't you listening to me?!"

"I'm truly sorry. Don't take this out on me. You know how much I care about you."

She shook her head, defeated. He really wouldn't listen to her or even give her a chance to prove her statement. She was hurt and it was not a good feeling especially when it came from someone she loved and adored.

"Since I'm safe now and the enemies were caught, there's one thing I want to do, will you let me?" she asked.

His face was soft and he was looking at her with so much love that she could barely even look at him straight. "Anything for you."

She looked down, not having the strength to see his eyes once she spoke the next words. "I want to go home."
