"Calm down your horses." i snickered. "What's the big deal?"
Jake comes in in front of me, he grabs both of my shoulders and makes a threatening expression. "Just what the hell are you thinking?!"
"Um i don't know maybe honor?"
"IT'S DEATH, YOU'RE THINKING OF DEAT-ow!" Jake was cut of when Basti smack his head. "Why do you love hitting my head so much bro?"
"If she decided to do it, just let her do it." Basti sighs.
I smiled at him, acknowledging his point of view towards my decision.
"Are you freaking crzay? why would you let your sister jump to her death?!" Jake exclaims, venting his frustration towards Grover that had a shocking impression, unable to communicate as of now.
Basti shook his head, he smiles towards me. "Although i don't know what's going inside of your head, i've never doubted your abilities. I'll bet all my money on you."
Both Grover and Jake turned their head towards us.
"Hey! Who told you can take advantage of her huh?! i never said i doubted her abilities!" Jake denies, faking innocence.
"You just did."
"I would never Christal!" He holds my hand. "I also believe in you. I shall bet everything- even my own house for your victory.
Hah, what a pig-head, Should i just loose to make him cry?
Nah not worth it.
"Yeah yeah." I said, rolling my eyes while i pushed his hand of me. "Seriously, it's not a big deal guys, i can handle it. You just gotta tell me the rules of the game."
"Game?" Grover almost dies from disbelief. "This is no game Christal! It's a duel of death... DEATH!"
He falls pathetically in Jake's arm. "Grover! GROVERR!!!"
Just what the fuck are these two acting for?
"Stop you dimwits. Are you gonna explain it or not? stop wasting time." I said, irked.
Basti laughs. "Don't mind them, i'll explain it to you."
"Finally."
"So starting off, Duels are mostly based on ranks to maintain the fairness of every duel, it's unlikely for werewolves to die inside since you can call for surrender or if your opponent decides to stop the duel. But since you're a special examiner, the rules are kinda twisted, Your opponent must be the opposite of your own, meaning you'll probably face the strongest werewolves in the Arena. And the only person who's allowed to call for surrender is your opponent, a special examiner can't voluntarily escape the arena, you need your opponent's permission to get out of it."
So that's why those two are overreacting.
I realized that death is usually uncommon in the arena, but for special examiners, it's just instant death before the monthly trials.
"That's why being a special examiner is called having a path of death. All the rules are disadvantageous for special examiners." Jake shivers in fear. "It's not that i doubt your abilities, but the rules are just so unfair for you."
"That's right." Basti nods. "Special examiners are also excluded to shift into their werewolf during the battle."
"What? that doesn't make sense," I said, confused.
A werewolf battle that doesn't allow shifting? Well, it was what I was planning to do, but having this kind of rule for werewolves is of a great disadvantage if you're facing another werewolf who's already shifted in his form.
"True, some say it was made as a rule to lessen the chance of death of special examiners before the monthly trials. It's like a red flag for special examiners to realize that they need to last before the monthly trials. So far, i never heard of any special examiners that joined the arena ever since Delta was built, not even the AlphaKIng, and it's not like they are required to join." Basti adds.
"So i can't shift to my werewolf, and i also can't initiate a surrender call?" I ask. "What else?"
"and.." Basti tries to think, squinting his eyes.
"And you can't kill your opponent." Jake cuts in.
When i heard that, i almost cursed with all my might. Knowing that venting my anger by killing these fuckers went downhill as they stated, it really was true that everything was unfair for special examiners.
I face-palmed myself. "I can't kill them, but they can kill me?"
Jake nods awkwardly.
i inhaled deeply, trying to contain the emotions that i was feeling.
All the rules were insignificant until this one, i felt so frustrated not being able to kill those mutts.
"So? what happens if i happen to kill one?"
They all look at me suspiciously.
"Then, the number of your opponents' triples," Basti says, shooking his head in disbelief. "If you kill one, three will come in to finish the job, if you kill those three, 9 will come in. The fight will stop if those groups surrender in front of you.
"What? so i could still kill them right?" I laughed bitterly.
"Stop it! why did you even say that to her? i even told her she can't kill!" Jake tries to cover Basti's mouth in desperation.
Basti punches him in defense. "Stop acting like a girl." he finall snaps.
"Sorry." Jake cries.
"Stop it." I laughed. "Even if all rules are against me-"
"All of them is literally against you." Grover cuts in, confirming my statement.
I coughed uncomfortably. "As i just said, even if that is so, don't you think i'm actually in an advantage? i mean i could kill more if i kill simultaneously, and it doesn't even stop until one of them surrenders."
I couldn't contain my joy at the thought of it.
Ah, finally some nice rules for special examiners.
"You got to be the scariest she-wolf i've ever met." Jake hides behind Basti. "Did you see her expression? that was the expression of a demon i tell you!"
"Christal." Basti starts. "I don't suggest you to kill them since you might really die. The arena has at least a thousand of werewolves competing around the continent, even if you manage to kill every last one of them, you'll make everyone as an enemy of your own. Are you willing to shoulder that amount of hostility?"
Tsk, I hate that he has a point.
But through that disappointment towards myself, i found myself smiling at the thought that these guys cared about me.
"Fine." I said, giving up. "I'll let you influence my decision since you planned to do so from the start."
Basti chuckles, patting my head. "Good choice."
Grover and Jake immediately hugs me, as if they were already mourning.
"I won't forget you sister." -Grover.
"We shall build a statue to honor your bravery." -Jake.
I couldn't believe that they still had the audacity to act this awkwardly. This time, i was the one to smack their head. Their heads slamming hard on the ground. "Stop whining you idiots." i said.
"I'll guide you towards one of the instructors, they'll ask for identification then give you a plate number." Basti urges me.
I followed silently behind him, leaving those two idiots behind praying for my safety. At the end of the path, a table and a guy sorting out papers sat quietly.
"There, that's the guy." He points.
I nod before he leaves.
I stepped in front of him, his eyes never leaving the papers.
"Um.. i'm here for the duel fight."
"Name." His voice stern.
"Christal."
His eyes widen, finally looking at me. "Christal? the 5th level Special examiner?"
"Yes?"
I mean who else is a special examiner other than me?
He then opens a drawer, pulling out a folder, my eyes land on it when i saw my profile as he flips the pages.
He inspects my profile carefully, then looking at me. "Identification is confirmed. Here is your plate number, go to the back of the arena, if you're called come up the stage. Your opponent will have the same number."
I nodded.
As i held onto the number plate, i made my way back to the back of the arena as he said. I was surprised to see a long line of werewolves sitting along the sides.
Ah shit.
"That 5th level chick?"
"Look at her plate, she joined?"
"She must've wanted to die before monthly trials."
"Tsk why is she here? my man has been looking everywhere for her"
As expected, they recognized me already. Well, it's not like i'm not used to this hostile environment.
Ignoring their remarks through my hearing abilities, i sat quietly on th line. Not minding their awful gazes towards me. i waited until my number was called. It was not long before reaching the first of the line, making me surprised about how fast-paced this was all going.
When my nameplate was finally called, i smirked.
Finally.
I stepped out of the cloth in front of me, hundreds of werewolves turning silent at the sight of me. I felt an alarming amount of bloodlust towards me. Still, i didn't let it get on my nerves and stood on the opposite stage.
This is fun
