Chapter 258
1040words
I kept my face void of emotions as I crossed my legs and leaned my elbow on my knees, waiting for her reply.
Observing her facial expression that’s mixed with regret and anger, I couldn’t help but tilt my head in curiosity. Taking a deep breath, she started to speak as calmly as possible, but her trembling voice still betrayed her emotions.
"Flora… she wasn’t punished. After the day she was brought back to the Dark Moon Pack, she stayed there until now. Nothing happened to her despite betraying the pack and seducing another Luna’s Alpha from another pack. Some people even revealed that you are the rightful Luna, and she bullied you, but she’s still alive and well. How is that fair?"
Her chest was moving heavily as her breathing deepened, eyes turning sharp with anger.
Hearing that Flora didn’t face the consequences of her actions brought a sting in my heart. Even Cathy, who was only an onlooker, felt anger; how much more myself who was the victim?
They never cared for me for the years that I was with that pack. They made me receive punishments for things I didn’t do, and yet let Flora’s mistake be looked over every single time, no matter the severity of her sin.
“Some said that I was bullied?” I asked, curious that there was another person to speak up for me.
Cathy scoffed, her expression laced with contempt. "Yes, but don’t get your hopes up, Princess. They've all been angry at you since you issued the divorce statement."
A faint, humorless smile tugged unknowingly on my lips, feeling the bitterness rushing through my heart. "No matter how well an omega does, she’ll never be truly accepted."
And for them… I’d always be an Omega rather than a Luna.
Cathy’s eyes dimmed as she let out another scoff and continued, "Those people are too disgusting. Back when you were Luna and were managing the pack so well, they all ignored it. They cared about flattering that traitor and scheming woman, Flora."
I leaned back in my seat and kept silent for a few seconds as I processed every word she uttered. After a while, I asked, “What’s Flora’s situation now?”
Though I didn’t know specific details, Albert once accidentally mentioned Flora, and that’s why I knew she was still in the Dark Moon Pack. But aside from that, I’m totally blinded. Everyone was cautious not to tell me anything, so much so that even Jackson and my father ordered others to keep their silence.
However, their secrecy was only fueling my curiosity even more.
"Why do you even care about Flora’s situation? After everything she did… After nearly destroying your life… She should be in jail and suffering!” Trisha’s menacing voice, filled with anger, rang in my head.
Trish wasn’t wrong, though. It only mirrored my surprised feelings. I knew I should not care about Flora’s business anymore, but my Dad’s and Jackson’s evasive attitudes made me think things weren’t as simple as they seemed.
And the more they showed they were trying to hide the truth from me, the more I felt the urge to know about it.
Flora’s scheming actions before had nearly cost me my son’s life. If it weren’t for Wizard Lucas’ pill, I would have lost Aaden forever. No, I wouldn’t even be able to meet that little angel of mind. The thought of that and the wound that it caused me were still causing stings in my heart. And every sting I felt was fueling my determination to seek justice.
Whatever it may cost, I’d like to know what kind of justice had—or hadn’t—been served yet to that vicious woman.
“What is it? Go on…” I was encouraged when I noticed Cathy glancing back at me and looking away occasionally as if hesitating to tell me something.
Reluctantly, I sighed and uttered, "Flora is in the Dark Moon Pack’s mental hospital."
My eyes widened upon hearing that, and my jaw almost dropped as a string in my heart broke into pieces, but I tried to conceal all my emotions and kept a nonchalant expression.
"They take good care of her…" Cathy added bitterly. "Alpha Kylian keeps it a secret, but I heard about it from a former colleague of mine. We were drinking, and it accidentally slipped up from them. I don’t understand why she’s being treated so gently. Maybe… maybe she’s just pretending to be crazy."
My heart tightened even more as thousands of thoughts rushed into my mind.
Flora’s in a mental hospital and was even receiving care? That’s far from a punishment! She’s even being treated so kindly when I suffered so much!
“What? Did she mean to say that butch didn’t get any punishment at all? How can Kylian let this happen? If it weren’t for that scheming slut, you wouldn’t have suffered so much!" Trisha’s furious voice echoed in my heat, voicing my own fury.
“Kylian is the alpha of Dark Moon. It’s his right to decide how to handle his fated mate,” I bitterly replied.
Being his fated mate, if he said she shouldn’t receive punishment, then no matter what she did, no one could harm her.
But even after I explained it truthfully to Trisha, its meaning felt hollow against my lips. Though I knew from the start that she wouldn’t be severely punished, I never expected Flora to walk away unscathed. Kylian’s decision was the worst and most painful betrayal he had put me into. It’s as if every moment he once fought to protect me was nothing but a cruel joke.
“Are you okay?”
I blinked my eyes and shifted my gaze to find Cathy staring at me with concern in her eyes.
Nodding slowly, I grabbed my glass of wine and took a small sip from it before smiling at her. Perfectly concealing my emotions, I replied, “I’m fine. I was just a little surprised, that’s all. Alpha Kylian had his reasons to protect Flora.”
Shrugging with fake nonchalance, I added, “After all, she’s his fated mate.”
As I said those words, I vowed silently, “I’ll never want to see him again. This time, no matter how hard it is, I’ll forget him.”
