Chapter 237

Narrowing my eyes, I watched the man's every step as he dashingly entered the party, his majestic demeanor effortlessly grabbing everyone's attention.
In the midst of blasting lights that reflected the night's mysterious glint, he managed to suppress it, with the mysterious darkness flashing in his dark blue orbs peeking from his black mask lined with silver strips.
His stance and posture screamed authority and dominance, which vaguely made most in the room respect him.
Being the Princess and a Lycan, I felt nothing but wariness toward his presence.
Subtly, I raised my hand. Not half a minute second, Sapphire was already on my side.
"Princess, is there anything?"
Nodding at the newly arrived man, I tilted my head a bit while keeping my eyes on him as I asked, "Do you know who he is?"
The files about everyone on the party list had kept me awake for countless nights in preparation. I repeatedly read every single detail about them and memorized each of their faces.
Beyond confidence, I knew that I didn't see him in. Despite the mask, his posture and other facial details would have been enough for me to know who he was. But that wasn't the case, which was increasing my suspicions about him.
"I think that's—" Sapphire was interrupted before she could finish.
"Don’t imagine things. No one was excited to see you, Princess. After all, after what you did, you are seen as a disgrace." Kendrell annoyingly insisted, unaware of the coming guest as he had his back to the door.
His smug smirk was plastered all over his face.
I parted my lips, ready to dispute and put him in place, but I was beaten into it just as my voice was about to escape my mouth.
"I seem to hear someone insulting the Princess. I never knew someone could be so daring." A deep and rich voice echoed in rhythm with those heavy and firm steps as the dominating man at the door approached us.
My eyes narrowed even more as my head shifted toward his direction. He's speaking up for me? Who was he, exactly?
I couldn't help but be more curious.
Krendell, on the other hand, was feeling the opposite.
He squinted his eyes at the man whom I presumed to be uninvited because I didn't know him. Krendell stared at him with blame, asking, "And who are you? I never saw you in Wakeland."
He let out a smug snicker and added, "I'm sure you're not on the guest list. Otherwise, you'll be recognizable at a glance. After all, I've been managing this land for years."
The man was unfazed by Krendell's attempt to intimidate him. If more, he stood even taller and took a step forward, making Krendell slightly look up at him.
Deadly, his squinted blue eyes turned darker as he leaned closer to Krendell and let out a devilish grin before coldly asking, "Do you think you're the master of Wakeland?"
I smirked and watched the scene before me unfold. So, it's him. Mr. K.
The man’s dominance, stance, and vagueness were shouting mystery all over him. Undoubtedly, he was Mr. K., the only person we barely knew about and had no records of photos.
I watched as Krendell's face became tense. He forced a smile on his chopped and thin lips, jaws clenching in a strenuous attempt to hide his contempt.
Mr. K snickered before moving back and keeping a professional distance.
Staring at Mr.K, I wondered, "What's his purpose? Why is he doing this? Is he taking my side? But for what? Why?"
When I arrived here, I was prepared that everyone here was possibly wrapped around Krendell's fingers. But Mr.K… He's different. He didn't just remain as a bystander, but holds a prominent position in Wakeland. His preferences are important to me.
A smile formed on Mr. K's lips before he turned serious and professionally stated, "Princess Della chose to disguise herself as an Omega for the sake of love."
"What are you pointing out here?"
"That fact had spread everywhere already like wildfire, and everyone praised the princess for her impeccable self-control and sense of equality among Omegas."
"So, tell me, Mr. Krendell, how is it that she's regarded as a disgrace in Wakeland? Is it such a humiliation now to fall in love with the Alpha of the dark Moon Pack?"
As he reminded him of the man I foolishly fell in love with, a string in my heart was seemingly pulled, freezing me for a second with questions and pain.
'It wasn't shameful, but it was foolish,' I silently answered his question.
This is the question that Krendell seemingly has a hard time replying to after being the primary person to receive the coldness and dangerous light glinting in Mr. K's dimming eyes, sensing the intense oppression radiating from him.
It was so strong that even I, the princess, couldn't help but straighten my back after feeling the chills through my spine.
I stared at Mr. K., trying to read what kind of person he was, but most importantly, I was trying to see through him. If I had my suspicions before, I was most certainly sure now that he had some kind of connection—a relationship even—with Kylian, and that's something I ought to find out.
For a moment, Krendell was in a state of confusion until he shook out of his daze and became serious, coldly asking, "What do you mean by that?"
Mr. K laughed knowingly and disapprovingly shook his head. "It's known that the CEO of Wakeland Times takes orders from you, Mr. Krendell."
"It has nothing—"
"Hence!" Mr. K's voice increased as he cut Krendell off. "Hence, the reports about Princess Della's affairs in the Wakeland Times are obviously exaggerated. If I may say so, even so bold that they used insulting and condemning words to mislead the people of Wakeland."
Krendell's jaws clenched, as did his fist, chest moving fast as rage built up on him.
What for? Of course, because he's guilty as charged.
"Servants! Get this man out of here! Or I swear in everything within me that he won't be leaving this land breathing!" He ordered while pointing a finger at Mr. K.
All the nearby servants who were doing their own thing momentarily stopped and hesitantly looked between Krendell and me.
He might have been leading this land for the past years, but even if they like me or not, I'm the new leader of this land now, and it's my words against his.
As he did earlier, though, Mr. K remained unfazed. He merely smiled and shrugged his shoulders, complacent. Even the princess can't drive me away right now, Mr. Krendell."
"you!"
"By the way, all the guests will be arriving shortly." After saying that, he shifted his gaze at me, giving me a proud smile.
I squinted my eyes. Was he trying to impress me? If so, he sure was doing a great job at it.
Surprised by his capability, I did not stop my mouth further and asked, "How did you manage to do that?"
Mr. K only smiled and said nothing in response. He, however, started walking a few steps toward the high tables and leaned his elbows on it. Cooly, he flicked his arm and tapped at his Rolex watch, saying, "Being late for a mere ten minutes is after all…"
Nodding towards the reporters, he smirked and continued, "Wasn't big news."
Krendell scornfully laughed at Mr. K, probably thinking he was only bluffing.
"Don't you think he is related to Kylian?" Trisha, my wolf, asked.
"I doubt it," I replied in my mind. Mr. K seemed like a proud man. Men like him wouldn't bluff like that and put themselves in shame.
Krendell shook his head. "Oh, Mr. K, if you think you can bluff me, think again."
"Yeah?" Mr. K asked nonchalantly as he shifted his gaze toward the door.
In cue, two women without masks and wearing simple summer dresses ran inside the hall with a void of elegance. After panting and almost colliding with Krendell, who was seemingly shocked and speechless, they shouted, "Dad!"
Krendell then became more stunned when, a second later, a massive crowd of guests slowly arrived and filled the once-empty hall.
In fact, he wasn't the only one. Sapphire and I were just as surprised as he was.
But if I managed to keep my shock to myself, Sapphire was in total shock and asked, "How is this possible? Those dignitaries barely listen to anyone but Mr. Krendell."
"Dad! Look!" The two ladies who barged in earlier kept shouting and pointing at the arriving guest.
"Shut up!" Krendell shouted, scolding his daughter. He pointed at them, "Why are you yelling? It's embarrassing!"
The younger woman between the two pouted and aggravatedly replied, "It's not our fault. We were forced to come!"
"Force to? What happened?" I asked, wanting to know what exactly happened.
