Chapter 63: Transformation

340words
The light intensified, enveloping us completely. Within its embrace, I felt a strange sensation—a pulling, a changing, as if something dormant within me was awakening. My skin tingled, my senses sharpened, and for a moment, I could hear every heartbeat in the forest, smell every flower and leaf.

"Liam," I gasped, looking down at my hands where claws were extending from my fingertips. "I'm—"

"Transforming," he finished, awe in his voice. "The dormant werewolf gene—it's activating."

The process was both painful and exhilarating, my body reshaping itself according to ancient patterns carried in my blood. I fell to my knees, Liam supporting me as the transformation took hold.

"Stay with me," he urged. "Don't fight it. Let it happen."

I surrendered to the change, trusting Liam's guidance and my own instincts. When it was complete, I stood on four paws, my senses alive with new information—scents, sounds, sensations I'd never experienced before.

Liam shifted as well, his black wolf form now familiar and beloved. He approached slowly, touching his nose to mine in a gesture of acceptance and love.

Can you hear me? His voice sounded in my mind, clear as day.

Yes, I replied, astonished at the mental connection. How is this possible?

The mate bond, he explained. It's complete now. You're truly one of us.

We ran together through the moonlit forest, my new wolf form exulting in its strength and speed. Everything was sharper, clearer, more vibrant—the forest I'd studied as a scientist now revealed to me in ways I could never have imagined.

When we finally returned to the Heart Tree and shifted back to human form, I was laughing with the pure joy of it.

"That was incredible," I said as Liam wrapped me in his jacket. "I never knew… never imagined it could feel like that."

"The transformation is different for everyone," he explained, his eyes shining with happiness. "For born wolves, it's natural from childhood. For bitten wolves, often traumatic. But for you—half-blood with the gene awakened by choice and love—it's something unique."
