Chapter 43: The Rescue Begins

She shook her head. "I can't. Not yet. But I'll make sure you have a clear path out."

After she left, I held the key tightly, waiting for night to fall and hoping that whatever plan Liam had would be enough to overcome Richard's defenses.

As midnight approached, I felt a strange tingling sensation in my chest—a pull, an awareness I couldn't explain. Something was happening. Something was coming.

And then I heard it—the distant sound of howling, followed by alarms blaring throughout the facility.

Liam had arrived.

The moment the alarms sounded, I used Sophia's key to free myself from the restraints. My limbs were stiff from hours of immobility, but adrenaline pushed me forward as I cautiously opened the door to the corridor.

The hallway was empty, the guards presumably responding to whatever distraction Liam and the pack had created. Red emergency lights pulsed along the walls, casting eerie shadows as I made my way toward the medical wing where Jackson was being held.

I encountered no one until I reached the junction leading to the medical facilities. Two guards stood at the entrance, looking tense and alert despite the chaos elsewhere in the complex.

Hiding around the corner, I tried to think of a way past them when a familiar voice called out.

"Charlotte? Is that you?"

I turned to see Sophia approaching from a side corridor, her expression tense but determined.

"What are you doing?" I whispered as she reached me.

"Helping," she replied simply. "Follow my lead."

Before I could respond, she grabbed my arm and marched me toward the guards, her face set in a stern expression.
