Chapter 16: Working with Jackson

Jackson was much friendlier than his Alpha, eager to try my treatments and fascinated by the science behind them. Despite his condition, he maintained a positive attitude that I found admirable.

"So you're really not freaked out by all this?" Jackson asked on the third day as I measured his heart rate after administering a new herbal mixture. "Most humans would be running for the hills."

"I'm more fascinated than frightened," I admitted, recording the data in my notebook. "Though I was definitely scared that first night."

"You didn't seem scared," he said, sounding impressed. "He said you were unnaturally calm."

I glanced toward the kitchen where Liam was pretending not to listen while making tea. "Did he now? What else did he say about me?"

Jackson grinned mischievously. "That you ask too many questions."

"Occupational hazard," I replied with a smile. "Scientists are curious by nature."

"Is that all it is? Scientific curiosity?" Jackson's tone was innocent, but his eyes were knowing.

Before I could respond, Liam appeared with a steaming mug. "That's enough questions, Jackson. How's the treatment working?"

"Better," Jackson said, accepting the tea. "The muscle spasms are less intense, and I don't feel as feverish."

I nodded, pleased with the progress. "The moss compounds seem to be interacting well with your traditional herbs. I think we're on the right track."

Liam's expression remained neutral, but I caught a flicker of relief in his eyes. "Good."

It was the closest thing to approval I'd received from him since starting this arrangement. I tried not to show how much it pleased me.

"The full moon is in three days," Jackson said, his tone growing serious. "Will the treatment help with the actual transformation?"

"I hope so," I said honestly. "But I can't make any promises. This is uncharted territory for me."
