Chapter 18: Moonlight Covenant

Graduation ceremony preparations were in full swing. I stood before the mirror, adjusting my graduation gown, my silver hair carefully pinned up, my heterochromatic eyes sparkling with joy and anticipation. That cave confrontation three months ago seemed like a lifetime ago, but the changes it brought were profound and lasting.

"Ready?" Lina pushed open the door, excitedly spinning in a circle. "Can't believe we're finally graduating!"

I smiled. "Yes, feels like a dream."

Indeed, it was dreamlike. Since discovering the crystal and awakening my abilities, my life had undergone a complete transformation. William had formally adopted me, making me legally a member of the Moon family; my relationship with Jay was acknowledged by the school, and he had even resigned from teaching to focus on his personal artistic creation; most importantly, I had learned to control my Moonshadow clan abilities, gradually mastering moonlight manipulation techniques with William and my family's help.

The hunters had temporarily retreated, but William warned they would eventually return. However, today, I decided not to think about these things—today was a day for celebration.

"By the way," Lina smiled mysteriously, "heard Jay prepared a special graduation gift for you."

I raised an eyebrow curiously. "Do you know what it is?"

"Of course I won't tell you!" Lina laughed. "But I promise you'll love it."

The ceremony venue was packed, parents proudly watching their soon-to-graduate children. I found the Moon family in the crowd—William, Luke, Noah, Jay, and Aiden sat in the front row, their faces bearing the same proud smiles.

When the principal announced the name Ella Grey Moon, applause thundered. I walked onto the stage, receiving my diploma, my gaze meeting my family's, my heart full of gratitude. A year ago, I was a homeless orphan; now, I had family, identity, future, and most precious—love.

At the post-ceremony celebration, Victor unexpectedly appeared. Since his failure at the hearing, he had kept a low profile, reportedly transferring to an out-of-state school.

"Ella," he approached, his expression complex. "Congratulations on graduating."

I watched him warily. "Thank you. What are you doing here?"

Victor smiled bitterly. "Saying goodbye. I'm leaving this city." He paused. "I owe you an apology. My behavior... inexcusable."

I hadn't expected to hear these words. "What changed you?"

"Seeing your power in the cave," he said softly. "In that moment I realized, you were never someone who needed to be controlled. You're much stronger than I imagined."

I looked at him in surprise. "You were there?"

Victor nodded. "As an observer. My family has connections with the hunters, but we don't fully agree with their extreme methods." He handed me a small box. "This is the only compensation I can offer—intelligence about the hunter organization. Might be useful to you and the Moon family."

I accepted the box, feeling a strange sense of closure. "Thank you. Good luck, Victor."

He nodded, turning to leave, his silhouette lonely yet resolute in the sunlight.

That evening, the Moon family held a private celebration party for me. The garden was hung with colorful lights, moonlight pouring onto the grass, creating a dreamlike atmosphere.

"To Ella," William raised his glass, "our pride, the hope of the Moonshadow clan, the new member of the Moon family."

Everyone toasted, and I felt my eyes moisten. Luke rarely smiled, Noah nodded gently, Aiden cheered excitedly, and Jay... Jay's gaze made my heart race.

Halfway through the party, Jay quietly led me to the depths of the garden, where a large object was covered with fabric.

"My graduation gift?" I asked curiously.

Jay nodded, somewhat nervous. "Hope you like it."

He unveiled the fabric, revealing a huge painting—a forest under moonlight, a silver wolf and a white wolf standing side by side, with the silhouette of the Moon house in the background. The painting was full of power and emotion, each stroke imbued with deep love.

"Jay, it's beautiful," I said softly, moved by the details and emotions in the artwork.

"That's not all," Jay said softly, taking a small box from his pocket, kneeling on one knee. "Ella Grey Moon, will you be my mate, spend a lifetime with me under the moonlight?"

In the box was an exquisite ring, its silver band set with a moon-shaped blue sapphire, echoing my pendant.

I felt tears welling up, my heart filled with happiness. "I will, Jay Moon. Whether the moon is full or waning, in good times and bad."

Jay placed the ring on my finger, rising to embrace me. At that moment, the moonlight suddenly became unusually bright, shining directly on us, as if it was the moon's blessing itself.

My pendant and ring simultaneously emitted a soft glow, interplaying with the moonlight. I felt an unprecedented power and calmness, as if the entire universe was celebrating this moment.

"Moonlight covenant," Jay said softly. "Legend has it, when the Moonshadow clan unites with true love, the moon bestows a special blessing."

I smiled, reaching out to touch the moonlight, feeling it flow through my fingertips like water. "Our story is just beginning, isn't it?"

Jay nodded, his eyes full of love and promise. "Yes, our moonlight covenant, never to be broken."

Family members, attracted by the light, came to the garden's depths, seeing this scene, their faces breaking into smiles. William stepped forward, holding that ancient Moonshadow clan history book.

"According to tradition," he said solemnly, "I should now announce: Ella Grey Moon officially becomes the heir of the Moonshadow clan, forming an eternal alliance with the Moon family."

He opened the book, pointing to a page with an ancient prophecy: "'When Moonshadow and Moon unite again, a new era will dawn. Light will triumph over darkness, peace will descend upon the werewolf world.'"

Jay and I smiled at each other, our fingers intertwined. Whatever challenges awaited us in the future—the threat of hunters, the responsibilities of bloodlines, the control of power—we would face them together.

Because we had each other, had family, had the moon's blessing, and that moonlight covenant which began on a stormy night and was completed under the full moon.

"Thank you," I said softly to the moon, knowing my mother was watching me somewhere. "Thank you for guiding me to find home."

Moonlight poured down like water, gently enveloping this reunited family, witnessing a new beginning, a new covenant, a new hope.

And in the depths of the forest, the moonlight crystal quietly flickered, as if responding to this ancient yet newborn promise: the moonlight covenant, eternally unchanging.
