Chapter 36

Lily stirred awake in Asher's arms, and he glanced down at her with a small smile playing on his lips. "You are awake?" Her brows furrowed as she looked around trying to decipher where she was, and slowly it registered to her that she was back home, and in Asher's arms. She wanted to instantly jump out and find out how she ended up like this but her head felt too woozy and she felt too weak and tipsy to react, so she just snuggled closer to him, and Asher raised his eyebrows in surprise.

"You are warm." She practically purred, before she drifted back to sleep.

Asher breathed out a laugh, and shook his head. Once he made it to the top of the stairs, his eyes rested on the door to her room, and after a few seconds, he looked back at her and shook his head. "She said my bed was more comfortable after all," he shrugged and walked off to his room instead.

He gently laid her on the bed, before he dropped her bag on the bedside table, he however miscalculated how wide the table was and the bag tipped over, spilling all of its contents. A groan escaped his lips at the mess before he bent down and began packing everything up. His eyes however failed to catch the brown envelope sticking out from under the bed.

Lily sat up abruptly, and he flinched, turning to look at her, but she seemed so out of it as she unbuttoned her shirt and threw it across the room. She reached for her pants next, and Asher's eyes widened. The image of her back then in Paris came rushing to his mind and he immediately stood up straight and turned his back towards her.  Lily however was ignorant of what was going on as she rid herself of her pants and flung it across the room before she draped the duvet over her and went right back to sleep.

Asher's breaths came out raggedly as he slowly turned back to check if she was done. He released a deep breath in relief when he realized she was fast asleep. His lips once again tugged up in a smile and he shook his head, before he went ahead to pick up her clothes, then folded them neatly and kept it beside her bag.

It was only when he went to the bathroom to freshen up did his mind start thinking of all the reasons she could have gotten so drunk. "Probably work stress..." He mumbled, lathering his hair. Her PA has said she just came and started drinking, she didn't give her a reason either. Shrugging his lips, he decided to leave the questions for her to answer when she was awake.

When he was done, he walked back to the room and dressed up for bed, before he walked over to check on her once again. That was when his eyes caught the envelope under the bed and he frowned.  "How did I miss this?" He whispered under his breath, picking the envelope up, but he picked it up wrongly and everything spilt on the floor. "What is wrong with you today, Allard?" He asked himself as he bent to pick up the papers, his hand however froze, hovering over the papers as his eyes took in the contents of it.

For a few minutes, he just knelt here, jaws clenched, face neutral, yet his mind was running an overdrive.

Finally, he picked everything up and packed it back into the envelope and dropped it into her bag. Sparing her one last glance, he picked a pillow and blanket and walked away.

Lily woke up the next morning feeling like shit. Her head felt like a truck ran it over, and despite the minimal light seeping into the room, it felt like the light was being pressed into her eyeballs. It took a while for her eyes to finally adjust to the light, and when it finally did,  panic shot through her at the thought that she was late for work. She immediately sat up, causing her headache to flare up even more but she didn't care as her eyes darted around for her bed clock, finally it came into sight, and she heaved a breath of relief when she realized it was just 7'O clock. Work doesn't start till 10.

"Thank heavens." She mumbled, rubbing her eyes, but suddenly she paused, and frowned, before slowly prying her hand off her eyes to get a better look at the room.

"How did I get..." The question trailed off her tongue when bits and pieces of memories from last night came pouring into her mind. Heat crawled up her neck and face, coating her cheeks and turning the tips of her ears red, as the thought hat he could have taken her to her room but instead brought her to his filled her mind. Her eyes caught sight of her clothes neatly folded on the table and her eyes widened, she immediately looked into the duvet draping her body and the blush on her cheeks deepened. "Get it together, Lily."  She slapped her cheeks softly, and took a deep breath.

Her eyes darted around in search of him, it was too early for him to go to work, but there was no sign of him in the room. She stood up and began to dress up. She dressed up quickly and was about to sneak out of the room quietly before he would come back, she wanted to see him, but the thought that he could have been the one that undressed her, made her want to run and hide. He already saw her once... Her face felt like it was on fire at the realization, and she tried to snatch her bag and run away, but immediately froze.

She was sure that she had folded that envelope and dropped it at the deepest part of her bag to avoid seeing it, but now, it was just casually lying around, unfolded and at the top of her bag. Did he see it...?

Her heart drummed heavily in her chest and with shaky hands she reached out and picked it up, the door creaked open the next minute and she immediately turned. Asher stood by the door, and they both held each other's gaze momentarily before his flicked to her hand, and when she followed his gaze, it was zeroed on the envelope in her hand.
