Chapter 125

1254words
Golden's POV.

We're horrified of what we've just heard right now. Freeda successfully recorded her murderer. It's a man. The reason behind all these killings and God Gaviel's missing bludgeon. We're a few steps closer to this menace.

"His voice sounds unreal. It sounded too nasal and dark." One of the conyans decided to break the silence in the room. We looked at him. He's the same conyan that gave us the pearl recorder.

Damon nodded his head. "He's right. A whiff of fluntuela plant can make someone's voice like that. It's found in Wizarnia Kingdom," he added. I glanced up to him.

So, the menace is indeed a wizardus.

My eyes landed on Freeda's lifeless body. It's still laying on the cold floor untouched. "Can we move her now? I don't think it's right to keep her there longer," I said in a worried voice making the conyans scratch their heads. This may not be the first time for them to see a dead body, but this is not just right. Freeda is a friend of ours. She's not a road kill.

"We're trying to preserve the scen-" I cut him off with a glare.

"We already have what we need. Now, do as I say and move her to the flower bed." There's a hint of authority in my voice that I don't use all the time. I can see Damon looking at me from the corner of my eyes. He must have noticed the frustration in my voice.

They were like this too when God Diate died. I find it very disrespectful and annoying.

"Right away," he said and bowed in front of me. I sighed in relief when they start to move her body to the flower bed. "Watch her head. Preserve the scene. Look for useful evidences and let me know if you find anything else." The leader-like guy of the conyans did all the orders to the rookies.

I am so tired of this. A lot of them are dying already. We have to stop them.

"You'll destroy the evidence if you keep doing that."

Damon's voice made me look at my hands. That's when I realized that the pearl recorder is inside my hard first. I immediately ease my hands and look at him.

"I-I'm sorry..." I apologized. He gave me a comforting smile.

"Let's inform the God of Spheria," he said. My eyes grew big. I almost forgot about the chosen who should be present here right now. How can he not know the situation in here? Or is he that busy? "Are you okay? You look like you're not."

"Y-Yeah. I'm just wondering why he's not here." He arched his brows at me.

"What do you mean?" he asked. I glanced around to see the busy conyans doing their job in the crime scene. I pulled him closer to me. I put my lips on his ear.

"Let's talk outside."

My secretive ass brought him to the end hallway. No one goes around in here. This is a perfect spot to speak to someone privately. I glanced around to check if we're really alone.

"Is there something you want to say?" he asked impatiently. I turned my head to look at him when I finally verified the security of the place.

I cleared my voice. "I was thinking of doing the mission alone," I told him. Damon's brows furrowed. "I think it'll be best to keep this between you and me."

"The conyans know," he replied. I sighed.

"They will not tell if they aren't asked. Let's not tell what we know to anybody. Something is sketchy. I think the menace i somewhat near us. We have to be careful. He has nose and ears everywhere."

His face frowned. "Is that your other way of telling me that we should keep this from God Hlaford?" he asked reluctantly. I heaved a deep sigh before nodding my head slowly. "What? Do you not trust the God of Spheria? Are you suspecting him?"

I shook my head. "N-No! It's just that. We don't actually have to tell him. He'll know before we know it. We have to protect what we know. You know what I'm trying to say, right?" I asked desperately. He frustratingly threaded his fingers through his blonde hair and look at me.

"We need help, Golden. We can't do this alone and you know that very well."

"No, we don't. Just trust me in this one." I leaned closer to him. "If God Hlaford failed to know what's happening in here. He's not that God Hlaford we know. He has always been different since the day he came back. He passed the test, but he seemed different since then," I said in a small voice.

He bites his lower lip.

"Fine."

*****

A day passed. Conyans weren't able to find anything else on Freeda's crime scene. I'm glad that the conyan guy gave us the evidence first before anyone else. Who knows? It might be forever hidden if given to the wrong vortan.

"Do you need anything?" I asked Steve. He's been silent since the incident. He hasn't been eating. I'm gnuinely worried that he'll hurt himself he continue doing what he's doing to himself right now. "You should drink, at least. Freeda wouldn't want to see you in this state."

He remained silent. We found him sitting here on the field staring at nowhere.

I was about to leave the food I brought beside him when he said something that froze me. "Was that her premonition." I looked down at him. "She said that my real parsen is dead. Was she talking about her death?" he asked.

I pursed my lips. We're currently working on asking for a Findan fairy's assistance to find his real parsen, but he isn't cooperating. He keeps on insisting that Freeda is his real parsen.

"Tell me, Golden. You're the only one I trust right now. Did she mean what she said?" he asked in a weak voice. I looked away when he turned his head to glance at me. "Tell me the truth. I don't know what to believe anymore. I am so tired of everything. I just want to sleep... forever."

I sighed. "Please, don't say that," I told him. He gazed at me.

"Answer me."

"I-I..."

"I, what? Tell me what you know. Was it all lies? Was she lying to me till her last hours? TELL ME!"

"Steve, calm down!"

"Is a yes and no hard to say?"

He sounds and looks so desperate right now. I can't even see the guy I met a long time ago in his eyes. He's so depressed and broken.

"Y-Yes..."

He squeezed his eyes shut. I gasped when he suddenly turned to a rock. "Steve!" I called, but he didn't say a thing. "Steve, please! She loved you. She was worried of you. She died for you!"

"GOLDEN!" a deep voice called. I turned my head to look at Damon. He's running towards me with Bubbles behind his back. He hugged me when he finally got close to me.

"I was looking for you." He kissed my forehead.

"Steve is right there," I whispered in his arms. I pointed the small rock in front of us. "He couldn't accept it. How do we save him from this pain?" I asked in a shaking voice.

I looked at his face when he pulled me away from him.

"I found someone who can sneak us to Wizarnia Kingdom."
