Chapter 53

"You have got to be kidding me!" she finished.

"What's the problem?"

"You. Just a few days ago you told me that you have a kid and now he's here, in this house, with us?"

"Yes."

"I really hate the way you always think you're free to make decisions like this."

"You got a problem with me bringing my son to my house? You're free to leave then."

I manoeuvred myself away from her and took Jason to the bedroom he would be occupying whilst here.

I kissed his forehead when I set him down on his bed and turned on a night light for him.

Next to his bed, was a bed for myself. I was going to keep him company.

I didn't want to be away from him for if he wakes, he might start crying. It was his first time being away from his home and his mother.

And although he slept like a log throughout the night, I kept checking him to see if he breathing or if he had wet the bed.

The next morning, Jason woke me. He had curled up in my arms and was resting his head on my chest.

I peered down at him.

He was the perfect son. The one I wanted myself.

After we brushed our teeth and freshened up, we headed for the kitchen.

Adobi was already up. She had prepared breakfast.

I handed Jason a peanut butter sandwich.

"I don't like peanut butter sandwiches. I like jelly. Mommy always gives me jelly."

"Well we don't have any jelly and I'm not your mommy," Adobi said, snapping at him in a low tone.

"Who are you? The maid?" Jason asked her.

I chuckled.

"That's very cute. I'm your father's fiancée and your new step-mom."

"There's jelly right there. You let me get it for you last week," I told her, eyeing the three jars of jam on the second island top across from us.

"Oh. Right. I forgot." She took the jam and loaves of bread and tossed them to me. "Make your own son some sandwiches since you neglected on telling him who I am."

She stormed off.

"Daddy, is she really my step-mom?"

My phone chimed on the island top. I picked it up and answered.

"Mr. Hollen, I'm sorry to disturb you on a Saturday, but sir, you'll have to come down to the office....."

"I'm spending time with my son today. Whatever it is, call my father or my uncle."

"Sir, it's the Mayberry account. It wouldn't roll over without your signature. Your father and uncle already signed."

"Fax it then."

"Sir, Mrs. Mayberry is also here."

I sighed. Mrs. Mayberry was the most difficult clients ever.

"Jason, go get ready. I'm....."

"Jason can stay here with me," Adobi cut me off, coming back into the kitchen. "We'll watch cartoons until you get back."

"Okay," I replied. I took my keys and drove to the office with all sort of crazy thoughts bombarding my mind.

~

After signing and meeting with Mrs. Mayberry, I left as fast as lightning.

I had been calling Adobi since getting into my car but she wasn't picking up.

I got home and all the bombarding thoughts became real.

Adobi and Jason were gone.

Jevan's POV

"WHERE THE HELL WERE YOU?" I yelled as Adobi walked through the front door with Jason.

They were both startled by the tone of my voice.

"I'm sorry. I didn't think you'd mind me taking Jason out for ice-cream," she apologized with doe eyes.

I sharply exhaled. "You had me worried. And I was calling you. Why weren't you picking up?"

"I forgot my phone in the bedroom."

"Daddy. Adobi got me strawberry and cherry ice-cream," my son inputted, coming over to hug me.

"I missed you."

"I missed you too, daddy."

Blossom's POV

"Hi Blossom. Have you heard the news?" my neighbour asked as I approached my apartment door.

"No. What's going on?" I asked her, turning towards her. She lived right across from me.

"The building is being sold to some new owners."

"What does that say for us?"

"Not sure as yet. We'll be notify sometime next week."

"Okay. Thanks for letting me know."

"In the meantime, we should start looking for another place because you never know."

I agreed and entered into my quiet apartment. I missed my little bundle of joy. My fingers urged to call Jevan but I didn't want to come off as paranoid.

Lord knows I called him enough since Jason left.

________

My phone buzzed and I looked at the screen. Hunter's name flashes. I reluctantly picked up.

"Hey you."

"Hi. What's the matter? You sound depressed."

"I've got lots on my mind, honestly. And my next door neighbour just told me some news that the building is being sold."

"Damn. I'm sorry to hear so."

"Yeah. I may or may not have to look for a new place. I..."

"Blossom, why don't you and Jason come live with me?"

I was stunned and speechless. I couldn't believe my ears.

"Are you serious?" I finally asked.

"Yes I am. Think about it. If you move in with me, it would give us a chance to become even closer, and Jason would get to know me better as well. You wouldn't have to be paying a fortune for rent every month or worrying about finding a place."

"That's a really big step, Hunter."

"I know it is. But don't you care about me?"

"I do. You're a great guy."

"Then think about it. Please?"

"I will. I'll think about it."

___________

And by 'think about it', I called over my best friends and told them the news.

"Wait. He wants you to move in with him already?" Nina asked.

"Well I think it's a good idea," Sophia said.

"But what about Jevan?" Nina directed at her.

"What about him? He's engaged to another woman and he can't be bothered with Blossom. Jason is even with them right now like a happy family," Sophia snapped.
