Chapter 34

I knew I wasn't going to be handed any special treatments nor was I ever interested in such. I believed in working hard to earn everything you seek.
I sat directly underneath an air-conditioning unit. There was just something about AC that I loved and enjoyed.
"Is this seat taken?" a feminine voice sweetly asked. I looked up and noticed a beautiful girl standing there with a wide smile on her glossy lips.
"No." I adjusted myself up-right as she sat down next to me.
"Hi, I'm Adobi Street," she introduced herself and extended her right hand.
"Jevan Hollen," I said back and shook her hand.
"As in Hollen Tower?" she asked with wide eyes now.
"Yes."
"Oh my God. My mom works there. She says it's the best job in the world and I'm actually following in her footsteps. She's the COO on level five."
"Impressive."
The first class was International Relations and Affairs with Mrs. Sunshine. When it was completed and I was leaving my seat, I was shoved back into it.
"I saw you two already flirting." Brooke stood there tapping her manicure fingertips on Adobi's desk.
"Excuse me, who are you exactly?" Adobi asked her.
"His girlfriend," Brooke replied.
I was startled by seeing Brooke. I never knew she applied for Stanford nor taking the same classes as I was.
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to cause any problems," Adobi apologized.
My silence was giving the wrong impression. I wasn't about to deal with Brooke for the next three years.
"Run along now. And if I see you near my boyfriend again, I'll remove all the teeth from the front of your mouth," Brooke threatened.
Adobi practically ran away and I turned to Brooke when my senses resumed.
"What the hell are you even doing here?"
"I'm taking my classes, just as you Jevan."
"Don't bullshit me Brooke. None of your friends got into this school. You wouldn't want to be here without them."
"It's time for a new chapter in my life. A chapter where I can be without friends."
I chuckled. I couldn't believe my ears.
"Jevan, can we at least be friends?" she asked.
"No," I answered.
"Why can't you let bygones be bygones? Is it because of that new girl? Do you like her?"
"She seems nice."
Adobi was nice indeed. She had thick curly hair that reached her shoulders. Her fair complexion matched mine. Her hazel eyes made a friendly impression along with the smile she possessed. She was just overall pretty and already a threat to Brooke.
"She wouldn't be so nice if I ...."
"Hey! Just stop right there. What the hell is wrong with you, Brooke? When are you going to get it through that thick head that we're no longer together and I don't want you back in my life? You're already here at the same college as I, taking same classes as I am and now you're threatening the people I talk to? You're going too far!"
"Jevan, I just want to be your friend too!"
"You had your chances. And messed it up every time. Leave me alone, Brooke. I'm dead serious. I wouldn't want to have to bring my father into this!"
She was lost for words. I moved away from her and walked out the empty classroom.

Brooke's POV
He shut me down once again but being the determined young woman that I was, I was destined to have Jevan Hollen to myself.
I knew choosing Stanford was wise. I knew some thirsty trick would want to bring her claws into him on the very first day.
_______
I headed to my dorm room after my classes. My roommate was there with her friends and to my pleasure, Adobi was there.
"Hey Brooke," my roommate, Bailey, greeted when I walked into the room, "We're just getting started on a game. Care to join?"
"What's the game?"
"Truth. We take turns and say what's our ultimate truth. The one that stands out the most gets what's in the hat."
I peeked into a hat they had on the floor in the middle of them. There were a few cash and an iPod.
"Just for the fun," I said and threw a hundred dollar bill in.
"I once broke up a relationship my mom had with this guy. He was weird and always looked at me with a smirk whenever he came over to the house. So one afternoon, after he had too much beers, he fell asleep on the couch. I took a lipstick and got it on his shirt and sprayed him with one of my feminine fragrance. Mom thought he was cheating and kicked him out. Hell, he probably was anyways," Bailey stated when it was her turn.
Adobi's truth was flushing her kid sister's goldfish down the drain and Felicia, the other girl in the room, slept with her cousin's boyfriend.
I had to top all of them so I admitted to these girls about the deportation of Mrs. Wright and her daughter.
I won the hat and everything in it.
___________
That night, when everyone left and Bailey was asleep, I snuck out and went over to the males flat where I knew Jevan had his own room.
Of course, his door was locked but I was always one step ahead. I stole the master key from the RA office and got accessed to Jevan's bedroom.
He was in bed, fast asleep, with the air-conditioning unit blowing at the coldest.

Jevan's POV
I was sitting on a rock, staring at the horizon, thinking about her.
Her. It was always her and always will be her. And as if on cue, she appeared with the familiar shy smile on her face.
