She had quickly gotten over his threats for more souls. All it took was for her to focus her mind on one man, WALTER.
She got sparks any time he touched her and she hoped it lasted this way for a long time. Smiling like she won an award, she felt the excitement of meeting him today making her stomach feel like a thousand butterflies had come to play in it, she was so excited that when a course mate walked up to her to borrow her notes from the previous class, she didn't hesitate to give the girl but noticed the look if pure surprise on the girl's face. ‘Thank you" the girl said in a small voice, Mary didn't care to reply just gave her an acknowledging smile.
Walking to the car park, she saw Walters waiting, he leaned on his car with a neutral expression on his face. She noticed his sleeves was folded and two buttons undone. His usually slick hair was ruffled and boy was he a sight to look at. Yes, he was, and she didn't miss the look other women agave him, she felt a pang of jealousy shoot through her.
He was hers and she honestly didn't like anyone wanting what was hers, but she knew he was a handsome man, there wasno way they could avoid it. On seeing her, his neutral expression fell away giving way to a dazzling smile that mad her heart drop. He reached out to her and gave her a deep hug, one that felt secure and not forced.
"Hey Babe, how was classes, and here gave me your books let me put them in the car for you" offering him her books she replied " it was good, it's funny how I am excited for my finals coming up". He opened the car door for her, being the gentleman he always was, and gently closing it then getting into the driver's seat. They talked for a while before he asked with a goofy smile on his face
"Mary, how about I take you for a vacation, just this weekend, help you release all tis stress and tension before your finals". She looked at him with surprised eyes,
"I don't know Walters, I need to read and truthfully, I don't think I should be taking vacations at this point". He didn't look like he accepted her words and took her hands in his, kissing it then saying
"It would just be for two days, I'll get you home by Sunday and you will have enough time to prepare for finals, I have a beach house that's 2 hours drive from here, I promise that if we get there and you don't like it, we would leave". He did know how to bring her to her knees
"But I don't have any clothes, "she added with a smile,
"Don't worry my fair lady, I'm Walters, I have that all figured out, just say the words and I'll start the trip".
Smiling at him she rolled her eyes and said "fine, let's go". With a victorious smile, he pressed his foot on the accelerator smiling at her, she loved his smile and God was he beautiful to look at. Putting on her sunglasses and letting the wind whip through her hair, she knew it was going to be a great weekend.
They arrived at the beach house just before the sun went down, she was impressed. It was a large house which stood close to the waters, it looked expensive and well kept, he probably has cleaners for it she thought to herself. After getting her things out, he took her hands in his
"I know your tired babe, I asked the housekeeper to run you a bath, you can rest tonight and tomorrow we explore". She knew he was right she was tired, so tired that when he dropped her at her room and she soaked in the bath which was warm with candles lighting the bathroom, she fell asleep and could swear she felt someone put a bathrobe around her and put her in bed. She couldn't open her eyes to check who but she slept like a baby.
The following day, she woke up to an excited Walters dressed in white sitting close to her bed with breakfast by his side "good morning angel, you fell asleep in the bath yesterday, I hope you slept well". He smiled then brought the tray to her as she sat up. "you should have breakfast then shower, afterward we take a tour, I heard there is a festival happening on the beach and we can check it out if you're interested".
Taking a bite out of her toast, she loved how the bread melted in her mouth it felt like heaven, he must have noticed her expression because he said
"My Chef makes state of the art meals. You would like him when you see him, I'll leave you now love, I'll be downstairs when you're ready".
She held his hands just before he could leave "thank you Walters, I am delighted you made me take this trip". He smiled like she offered him diamonds
"No love, thank you for coming with me". With that, he walked out leaving her with the beautiful sight of his back, she never felt happier.
The day went by so fast; they spent the day walking through the sand, talking with her doing most of the listening because she wanted to know more about him. Most times, she slipped her hands through his, loving the way he lit up when she got close to him. The festival was even better, coconut water, hippies with hair she had never seen before, music that made her hips move and a man who was skilled at dancing made her body feel like it had never done. She was happy, content, this was what she wanted, this was how her life should be, no Night Cross, no killing just love.
She noticed Walter watching her with hooded eyes as she danced, swaying her hips in ways she had never done before, she looked him in the eyes occasionally and smiled till he couldn't take it. He walked up to her and crashed his lips to hers. She didn't fight it, this was what she needed, the touch of his skin against hers, she couldn't feel the ground most likely because he carried her but also because his touch felt like magic, she knew where this would end, and she hoped it ended that way. The night flew by, but its memories stayed with her, every thrust, every moan, every touch of his body. Her brain could still remember every scar, every mark and everywhere he had kissed, she didn't feel like a little girl passing off as a woman, she felt like a woman now.
Holding Walters sleeping body close, she took a deep breath and that was when she noticed the scent wasn't his, it was muskier, more rugged and suddenly she couldn't move. Turning to face her with a smirk on his face was NightCross. "Hello Mary, you have been a busy girl" he said stroking her face. "You have been thinking about my souls right, I don't want to believe you have been carried away".
With every touch on her face, she noticed his skin became hotter, his blue eyes turned to embers of fire and she felt the heat eat into her skin, she was gasping for air but she couldn't move.
"Let me show you what would happen if you don't give me the next soul at the right time", with those words, she felt the air in her lungs being knocked out and her mind being transported to a scene. There was blood on the floor and people gathered around, the siren of an ambulance grew closer and she saw herself on the floor, a gash in her skull and blood on her hands, that was when she saw it, Walters lifeless body on the floor, his head twisted at an odd angle from his body. Tears streamed down her face, and she heard NightCross whisper to her
"it's his soul or theirs, don't be late Mary". Suddenly she was pushed by a strong force, and her eyes flew open, it was a dream, but one she knew would soon be her reality if she didn't act fast,
