Mary was never one to be religious but she saw herself being entirely judged for this. She looked watching Ben with a gloomy face and his head down. His friend stood by his side with an umbrella over his head as the rain poured down. She sat in her car watching them with her dark shades on not wanting to be recognized. Giving a huge sigh of tiredness she turned towards her steering to exit the place when she heard the door of her car open and someone stepped in sitting down comfortably.
Mary frowned expecting to see the effect of the wetness on her chair as it was inevitable but it was never there. Mary's lips formed a thin line, only one person would have the right to defy the laws of nature and he was Night Cross. She looked at him as he sat down undoing the button on his black shirt.
"How ironic, he also wore black in reverence of the dead, the one he killed" Mary thought to herself
"no, no, no, you killed her" Nightcross whispered with a smile on his face. Mary hated this. The fact that he could read her mind made her feel crippled. "What do you want this time Night" She asked with a tired voice
"I just decided to check how you are doing, making sure my favorite disciple is in the right mind to get me the next soul" he said, looking hat her so intently he made her skin crawl.
"what do you do with these people? What exactly do you do with their souls? Do you eat them or something?" She asked, her curiosity finally got the best of her
"And what if I do?" he replied, Mary looked at him with him with wide opened eyes "there is one way to find out Mary, you take a wild ride to the underworld where souls are being damned" he didn't have that cocky smile on his face, instead a solemn look that made the hairs at the back of her neck stand.
Mary felt the air around her tensed. she looked round and realized that it was like time had stopped. Shaking the feeling out Mary found her words as she said "you know I can't continue this forever, it would have better to have died in peace than to come here living under your wings". She fought the tears threatening to pour from her eyes.
"it is easier said than done Mary. So many people want to die Mary but when it comes, they keep on begging for mercy, that gruesome voice I hear at the back of my head as I watch their life sipped out, they say save me I do not want to die" he looked at her with half a smile "believe me Mary, death is not as easy as it seems". Mary knew that what he said was true, most things were easier said than done. What sacred her was when would this be over?, it seemed like this was going to go on forever or was there an end? How was she going to escape this?
This was no way to live life and Mary surely knew that she doesn't want to live her life like this, in constant fear of damnation.

Martha carried the basket in silence as she prepared to go on a trip with Philip. He had made a special request for a couple of servants to follow him on his trip, She and the new stable boy, she knew it was a cover up for him to get to spend time with her. She felt sick of his company what she hated the most even in her previous life was someone that could read her, and this man was doing a perfect job.
With a frown, she wiped the sweat off her brows. It had been a hot day and they have been waiting for a while. Soon carriages came towards them, she wondered how she and the new stable boy would go, she could feel the eye of the new stable boy pierce into the side of her head, she wondered to herself " what could he want from her" she was not here to make friends she just wanted to get her job done. She was so deep in thought that she failed to realize the hand stretched in front her to get in. a little nudge by her side brought her back to reality.
" Mary get in" she looked around and felt that this carriage was too classy for them, she felt something was not right she frowned her face at Philip whose hand was stretched.
He realized her unease and looked towards the mansion saying "my mum and my sister are not looking here right now so let's make this snappy Mary, get in both of you" not to waste more time Martha took his hands to get into the carriage with one swift movement the stable boy joined too and the carriage started moving towards a direction.
Minutes passed and Martha realized it wasn't so bad, she had never entered a comfortable carriage it was always a hard carriage or her legs had to go through the longest work on the road in harsh weathers. Martha found out that her body had become resilient because of what she had suffered, it made her tougher.
She smiled to herself, who knew that Martha Bernard will ever come this far? She could not help but feel proud of herself even though it was an unfortunate situation. Looking out of the carriage, she enjoyed the view. Her concentration got cut short as soon as the carriage stopped. Philip looked at the stable boy, "you can get down now, go ahead and meet with Mr. Simpson and discuss. Get the details from him and do not let him go until he has signed every necessary document" the stable boy nods and jumped down from the carriage. Martha frowned she doesn't like being alone with Philip. Reading her mind, he said "Don't worry Mary I don't bite" she rolled her eyes without a response, "you are going to have to talk to me some day as well as get comfortable with me Mary after all this is a long ride" he smirked. "Did I tell you? This is a three days journey'
Martha lifted her head immediately with a frown on her face "yeah a three days journey, don't worry you are going to love it" she squinted her eyes, who was he to know what she would love? Something she noticed about this era is men making decisions just all on their own. If she were in her previous element, she would have made sure to bulge his eye out of his skull. Just then the rich laughter of Philips voice filled the air as he looked at her, she was so cute when she was glaring. Martha knew this was going to be an arduous journey.
