She had been avoiding Night Cross during classes, he hadn't said anything to her but she knew he would soon. These days she had nightmares every night.
She was a murderer. Her driver Moses had offered to drive her but she refused. She needed time to clear her head and a stroll was what she thought she needed.
She had gotten to a part of the street where they were different stores at each side. A few people walked in and out of stores while some looked through the show glasses. She looked at the corner of the street where she saw a little girl holding her mother's hand, she smiled at the little girl who showed off a sweet smile, she wanted that kind of Peace they looked so happy. Why can't she be this happy? She thought to herself, why am I the only one with problems? While walking down the street, avoiding her reflection in windows, she heard a little dog bark, she turned her head to look at the puppy, every instinct in her to ignore was futile. The puppy was in a cage and she could see it because the stall had placed a large see-through glass like every other store. She looked up at the boldly written letters on top of the store, it was a pet store.
She was never really a fan of animals because of how helpless they were and it reminded her of her helplessness in her previous world. Why should she own a pet, if she could not help herself how could she help anyone else. Giving a sigh a defeat, she decides to proceed, before she could take a step the dog barked at her once again. She looked back the creature. This dog would be about a few days old, he brought out his tongue panting and then wags his tail as he looked at her from the glass shield. She looked into his eyes and realized that for a moment she forgot her pain. Her mind was made up she entered the store to get the companion she thought she needed.

Its two days later after Mary had bought the pup, a chihuahua which she named Star; she had taken him on a walk, smiling, it felt so normal. Although she never knew the meaning of normal, she thought to herself that she wanted this to last for a long time—the difference a simple creature can make in life.
While walking, she realize her shoe lace was untied, she seats and turned to the dog, "Star, stay!" she commanded. As she stoops to tie her shoe lace still holding on to the dog's leash. She felt the leash getting loose from her hand as Star took off, quickly tied her shoelace she chased after the dog yelling its name"Star!, Star"
Mary watched helplessly in horror as he ran into the road and just then a vehicle that was going at an unusual speed for the residential street but that was not the problem right now, she had to look for a way to rush over to Star on time "Star! Star!" She called out. Everything happened so fast as she watched in horror expecting the worse, she closed her eyes not wanting to see the horrible effect as she hears the screech tires of the car screech on the concrete floor and then she felt everything stop as she gently opens her eye to see that star was picked up by a stranger who walked carefully to her. Mary did not bother looking at who it was who brought her Dog to her as her full attention on Star. She was grateful, words could not describe how grateful she was. As she raises up her neck to look at the stranger to voice a thanks words died in her mouth as she saw the person she least wanted to see NIGHT CROSS.
