Chapter 122 Stolen

It feels as if an atomic bomb has just exploded behind my eyes—I come undone for Alpha Jaxon. Violent waves of pleasure crash over me as my body trembles, surrendering to my mate's every touch while he brings me to the edge. Jaxon wears a wide grin on his face, clearly feeling proud of himself. I can't complain, except for the small detail that I'm not sure my legs can support my own weight.

I watch as Jaxon unzips his bulky suitcase and puts on nothing but a pair of boxers that fit him perfectly. I wonder if he's trying to tempt me, so I shimmy the red dress off my body and toss it in his direction. Two can play this game, mate. He catches the silky material in one quick move and smirks, "Haven't had enough?"

Jaxon lunges toward me, planting soft kisses all over my neck and making me gasp for air through my laughter. He takes a deep breath and settles with his head resting on his large bicep, as if lost in thought. "Addie, if it happens—will you be okay with it?" he asks, and my stomach churns again. I sit up on the bed and reach for his hands. "Yes, I'd be honored to carry your pups. I just wish the pack would give me some breathing room about it. If the Moon Goddess blesses us, I promise I'll be ready," I assure him. Part of me finds it sweet that he cares so much about how I feel. Most Alphas wouldn't give their mates' opinions on the matter a second thought. I see his body relax as my words sink in, and I snuggle my head on his chest, enjoying the sound of his heartbeat in my ears.

My eyes flutter shut, and I'm pulled deep into darkness. There she stands—the stunning iridescent figure floating above the forest floor. I look up to see birds flying above the treetops, disappearing over the dense leaves. The forest is eerily silent again, but I can sense danger lurking, the air thick with an evil I can't quite identify. She reaches out to me, and when my palm touches hers, I feel my body begin to float.

I gasp, and she smiles at me. Her eyes are magnificent and warm, which makes me feel strangely at ease. "Relax, my child. I have chosen you, just as I have chosen others before you, to protect them. Protect him, protect the Alpha." My throat goes painfully dry as I blink at her. "Are you...?" I stutter, and she nods.

The rustling of nearby bushes disturbs the forest, and I whip my head toward the noise. The tiny hairs on the back of my neck stand at attention. The moment I break eye contact with her, my body thuds painfully against the forest floor. I glance down to see a small cut on my arm, my own blood bubbling within it.

A nearby growl catches my attention, and I cautiously lift my head to see the same wolf that had chased me before, staring straight at me. I shuffle my body to put some space between us, but he just growls louder, baring his long canines and stalking closer. I try to scream, but nothing comes out.

"Adeline, dammit, Adeline!" a voice yells, yanking me from my dream. I force my eyes open and see Jaxon's worried face peering down at me. "Another one?" he asks in a panicked voice. Swallowing the lump in my throat, I nod, still trying to process everything that just happened.

Jaxon lets out a growl when he sees my arm. I look down, and my eyes nearly pop out of my head when I see the same cut now on my arm. "What the fuck happened, Adeline?" he demands.

Panic erupts in my chest, and I jump off the bed, breaking free from Jaxon's tight grasp. I crawl across the floor, frantically feeling for the coiled notebooks I had carefully hidden when we arrived. "Jaxon, oh my, Jaxon, please," I shriek. Alpha Jaxon sits up on the mattress, and I can feel his fear thrumming in his chest.

"Addie, what's wrong? What happened? Why are you on the floor?" he asks, jumping down to join me. I can't stop the tears from welling in my eyes. "They're gone," I choke out.

His brows furrow, and he tilts his head at me. "What is it? What's gone?" he demands in a low, husky voice that makes my head spin. I can't answer him; all I can feel now is my own fear taking control.

"Adeline," he repeats in his Alpha voice, making my body shudder. "The notebooks. They're gone," I whisper, losing control of my trembling bottom lip.

He wraps his arms around me, soothing me with soft, calming sounds. "Maybe you left them in your bag. Calm down, let's take a look," he assures me. His voice is so convincing I almost believe I might have misplaced them. After all, they were of no use to anyone who wasn't a red wolf.

I needed those books. I needed to memorize every word written in them if I was to protect Jaxon. The Moon Goddess had confirmed it was my destiny. I slip out of Alpha Jaxon's embrace and rush to my suitcase, dumping all the contents onto the bed without bothering to look inside. "It's not here. I know I left it under the bed, Jax. Someone took it. I know someone took it!" I scream.

Jaxon runs a hand through his hair, worry lines etched across his forehead. I know he's trying to stay calm so I won't panic, but it doesn't help; nothing will help until I have my books back in my hands. "Let me go speak to my men and Sophia. Someone must have seen something," he finally says.

His words are slow to register in my mind as I continue searching the room, not even noticing when he leaves.
