Chapter 30

I gave her a sad look. "That's all I wanted to ask you. I'm so sorry for your lost." I turned and walked back in the direction of my car.

Harrison Samuel's wife had a motive of killing him. He was cheating on her. I could easily pin the murder on her as a jealous wife.

I start the engine of my car, my next stop was the precinct. If I could get a look at the murder weapon and compare it to Mr. Benjamin's kitchen knives. If they didn't match, then that could easily draw the attention off him.

I smiled proudly at myself. I was close to proving that Mr. Benjamin didn't kill Harrison Samuels. I was so close to winning the case against Seth. I couldn't let him win. If I sack with this case Seth will push it in my face. I can't allow that.

I can't let him win.

He wasn't going to win.

I let out a sigh of satisfaction. My right hand on my chest as my breathing calm down. I smiled then look over at Seth. "You really outdid yourself this time."

He smiled, "Thank you." looking up at the ceiling.

I laugh, "No thank you."

"I knew you were going to call." He turned and look into my eyes.

Three hours Earlier

I push my case files away and stand up, rubbing my eyes. I needed a break from all this work.

I pressed the power button on my remote, the first channel that came on was MTV; A couple was kissing. I skipped over to BET, a couple was kissing then I tried Disney, a teen was giving a kiss on the cheek. I rolled my eyes and press the power button. What's all the kissing for on tv tonight? I just want to watch a regular none-kissing movie.

I let out a sigh of frustration.

I was too tired to work, and boredom was killing me.

I needed more friends. I need people like Seth in my life.

Seth!

I need Seth to keep my company, but it was wrong. I should never be so lonely that I retreat the enemy. But I am lonely. Very, very lonely.

I reached over to my phone and searched for his name in my contact. I press the call button and placed it to my ears. It rang a few times before he finally answered.

"Goodnight, Ms. Jones. What do I owe this pleasure?" I rolled my eyes at myself. I can't believe I called him after everything I swore to myself, I took up my phone and dialled Seth's number.

"Goodnight, Seth. How are you?" I didn't want to go right to the point, it would make me seem a little desperate.

"Better now that I'm talking to you." I smiled at his words even though he probably used it a lot with other girls. "How are you, Ms. Jones."

I hesitated before answering, "I'm bored. Really bored. I was wondering if you'd want to keep my company." I didn't expect my words to sound like that until they actually came out of my mouth.

He heard his chuckle, "I thought we were enemies."

I sigh and hissed my teeth, "Okay, it's fine. Have a great night." Annoyed, I went to press the cancel button, but he spoke before I could.

"Hold on a sec, I'd love to come over and take you out of your boredom. Give me a few minutes." I could imagine the smile he had on his face now.

"Okay." I didn't know what else to say. "See you soon." Then the line went dead.

I played with my phone in my hands.

Did I make the right decision by calling Seth over tonight?

He was the prosecutor of my client, we were on the opposite team. But he also knows how to have fun and at this moment, I needed some fun.

So, did I do the right thing?

It's not exactly wrong either.

Seth was a great company.

The only thing I needed to do was not to mix business with pleasure. That was easy right?

I looked around the place to see if it was clean.

Rojo and her pups were sleeping which meant, one less problem. The kitchen was clean, the bedroom was clean, the bathroom was clean.

Okay, Kari. You're good.

I took up the case files and place them in my briefcase then placed in office, closing the door behind me.

The knock on my door had me rushing over to it. I didn't want Seth to come and see one of my neighbours at my door. Tonight is about me having some fun, not me lending some sugar.

I opened my door with a big fake smile, but it turned in a real one when I noticed who was standing there.

"How did you get up?"

He shrugs, "Someone was leaving. Are you going to let me in?"

I moved away from my door opening it wider for him to enter. He is wearing a business suit with cause me to frown. "Why are you in a suit?"

"I was on my way home from work when you called." I close the door and walked over to him.

"So late?" It was almost ten.

He nods, "Yea. I have a huge case working on. He killed his wife and their six-year-old daughter. Cruel son of a bitch. You should have seen how precious the little girl was and now she's gone." I could see the emotions in his eyes and facial expression. I heard about the killing since everyone was talking about it. Apparently, no law firm or lawyer wanted to take the case of the man, so they assigned him a public defender and the defender that they assigned him ironically had a six-year-old.

"That's beyond terrible."

He turns his head and looks at me with a smile, the previous sadness gone. "Now you said you wanted to have some fun."

I smiled nodding my head, "I do want to have some fun."

He reached out for me and pulled me in his arms. He bent his head and captured his lips to mine.
