Chapter 27

Derek's arms tightened around me. "I will never leave you, my Mate, my love. Not even death could keep me from you."

We sat there amid the destruction, holding each other, our hearts beating as one. Outside, we could hear approaching footsteps—pack members who had tracked us down. Soon, we would have to face the aftermath, explain what had happened, deal with the consequences.

But for now, in this moment, there was only us—bound by a love strong enough to conquer death itself.

The great hall of the Sterling pack house had never been so full. Werewolves from our pack and representatives from neighboring territories filled every available space, their faces solemn as they gathered for Victor's trial.

I sat beside Derek at the head table, my hand in his. Through our bond, I could feel his tension, his determination to see justice done. The evidence we had gathered—Victor's journal, the research notes, and our testimony—lay before the council of elders.

"Bring in the accused," Elder Thorne announced, her voice carrying through the hushed room.

The doors opened, and Victor was led in, bound with silver chains. He looked diminished now, his body returned to normal after the effects of his formula had worn off. But his eyes still burned with hatred when they met mine.

"Victor Lane," Elder Thorne began, "you stand accused of the murders of Gregory Grey and Samuel Sterling, theft of research, forbidden blood magic, and attempted murder of our Alpha pair. How do you plead?"

Victor lifted his chin defiantly. "I did what was necessary for the advancement of our kind. History will vindicate me."

Murmurs rippled through the crowd. Elder Thorne silenced them with a raised hand.

"The council has reviewed the evidence," she said. "We will now hear testimony from those directly affected by these crimes."

Derek stood first, his voice steady as he recounted finding his father's body three years ago, the suspicious circumstances, and how Victor had manipulated the pack to gain control.

When it was my turn, I rose slowly, feeling the weight of every eye in the room. "My father was killed because he discovered Victor's plan to weaponize healing research," I said. "I was only seventeen when I found him..." My voice faltered, but Derek's strength flowed through our bond, steadying me.

I continued, describing how Victor had stolen my father's work, how I had hidden my true identity for three years, and finally, how Victor had confessed during our confrontation.

As I spoke, I noticed Kayla sitting at the back of the hall, her face pale, eyes downcast. She had been arrested after Victor's defeat, her role in his escape and her betrayal of the pack now public knowledge.

After hours of testimony and deliberation, Elder Thorne stood for the verdict.

"Victor Lane, this council finds you guilty of all charges. Your crimes against your Alpha, your pack, and the werewolf community as a whole are unforgivable. The sentence is exile and silver binding—you will be stripped of your wolf form permanently and banished from all pack territories."

Victor's face contorted with rage. "You fools! You don't understand what I was trying to achieve! The silver wolf is the key to our evolution—"

"Silence!" Elder Thorne commanded. "Take him away."

As the guards led Victor out, he fixed his gaze on me one last time. "This isn't over," he hissed. "There are others who know what you are. They will come for you."

Derek's arm tightened around my waist, but I stood tall, refusing to be intimidated. Victor's threats were empty now. He had lost everything.
