Chapter 88

Evan slurped noisily from the smoothie cup in his hold, the young mother sitting her two kids in the table adjacent kept throwing him dirty glances but he didn't pay her any attention.

His focus was primarily on the trio walking along the sidewalk, there were about to cross the road and he just knew that they were coming here. After all, this was their usual spot, every Saturday they always assembled here and ordered the same thing.

Just as he predicted, seconds later, the three friends burst through the front door and stole the attention of most people who were either mid-bite or swallow. Evan watched with hawk eyed focus as the three of them sauntered to the counter, making gestures with their hands as they placed their order.

His gaze was fixed on the girl in their middle, the one who seemed much more quiet, allowing her friends to do the talking.

"Sorry, did you order for a cheese hamburger?" His attention was momentarily stolen by the smiling waitress who held a plate of steaming hot buns.

Evan shook his head, "No," The waitress apologized and made to leave when he hastily blurted, "Wait!"

"Is there something you'd like?" The brunette blinked, a faux smile still plastered onto her cherry coloured lips.

Evan bobbed his head slowly and then tipped his chin in the direction of the trio who were now recieving their lunch packs.

"That girl, the redhead in the middle," He said, leaning against the chair and swirling the straw with his tongue, "Isn't she pretty?"

The waitress blinked, confused and perplexed by his question. Evan snorted, pulling the cup away from his mouth and resting his elbows on the table while folding his fingers,

"You can be honest," He added, grinning cheekily.

She squirmed, adjusting the plate in her hold, "Well, um, yes, she's very beautiful."

Evan laughed, nodding in approval and leaning back again, "Do you know who she is?"

Now, his eyes was fixed on the redhead and every single gesture she made. As she swiveled around, her fiery locks bouncing on each step, he could smell the rich perfume on her even across the room and he just knew that that milky skin would be just as succulent on anyone's fingers. He inhaled deeply, seizing her scent in his throat,

"Aurora," The waitress finally and his eyes flickered to the waitress who was now eyeing him with a dubious look, "Her name is Aurora Rochester."

Oh, he knew that. He had known that even before the world knew her.

The corners of his lips crept up slowly, his signature maniacal look plastering on his face and the waitress coughed and quickly scampered away.

Evan's gaze returned to Aurora and at that moment, he knew it was time. Time for him to begin his plan.

When he returned home that night, he caught his landlady up front and she threw him a goofy smile.

"Today's the weekend and yet you look like you're just coming back from work," Sandra crooned, his attention slipping to the large bags in her arms.

Evan cocked a brow at her, "Going somewhere?"

She nodded, a bright smile appearing on her face, "My eldest daughter just went into labor, the third child now and I need to be there with her."

"Oh."

The sound slipped out in a bored tone. Well, it was going to be really mundane in the complex since the only person he got along with in the entire apartment building was the fifty something year old lady and now she was leaving.

"Don't worry," She patted his shoulder reassuringly, "I won't be gone long."

Ryan snorted, shaking his head, "Last time you said that, you spent three months with her."

Sandra cackled, her bright blue eyes shining and he couldn't help but smile back. Evan could remember when he spotted this complex, at first he found the place skeptical because of the exorbitant rent but it was worth every dime. Asides from the setting and space, Sandra was like the mother he never had the chance to grow up with.

"You should also go spend time with your family, Vanny," He grimaced at the nickname she'd made for him and she chuckled, "They'll add colour into your life, for sure and heaven knows you need lots of it."

Ryan smirked, "I'm leaving, actually. I'm glad I even ran into you because I'll be going for a long time."

"Oh, that's wonderful!" Sandra clapped in excitement and he didn't reply instead the smirk only widened.

The poor woman, bless her heart, thought that he was going to reunite with his family but Evan had a much more darker plan in mind.

He had been planning for years. It had haunted him for nights and it was the only reason why he was still sane in this shitty world. His revenge.

He was finally going to enact his revenge on the devil, Miriam Rochester and everything was going to start with her most prized possession.

The gem of the Rochester household and heir to the largest company in the state, Aurora Rochester.

The next morning, he packed his bags and cleaned up his entire apartment dropped the key in the potted plant on top Sandra's window sill. The drive to Rosedale took a staggering hour but he didn't mind, he was used to communing back and forth every weekend. It was the only way he was able to keep an eye on his beloved family.

When he got to the precinct, he took an Uber downtown, arriving at the luxurious area that was supposedly meant for the well to do families in the county. The Rochester household was tucked at the very end, built upon the very precipice of a hill.

Ryan scoffed when he saw the grandiose building, it was almost like they were looking down on the rest of the houses on the street and wanted to stake their claim as the wealthiest.

He climbed down the car, paying and generously tipping the driver before taking out his luggage. He hadn't packed plenty, just a few things here and there including his camera and laptop, those were the essentials.

He was surprised to see that it wasn't gated but grateful for it nonetheless, this would make his presence and even more shocking surprise.

When he got to the front door, he sucked in a deep breath and pressed the doorbell. For a moment, nothing happened and he frowned. He was sure that he'd texted his father earlier this morning that he was on his way coming.

Evan sighed and moved to hit it again when the door flew open revealing the man of his nightmares.

Harry Rochester stood there, wide-eyed as he blinked at him. Evan swallowed the pang that hit his chest and managed a wobbly smile,

"Hello, father."

Harry jolted when he said that and Evan frowned in hurt. Had they really been apart for so long that he'd forgotten about his own child?

"Come in," Harry muttered gruffly, pushing the door wife open.

Even from here, Evan could hear the joyous laughter and conversations going on ahead from them. He cocked a brow at the confetti splayed everywhere and scoffed internally.

Was Harry really celebrating his birthday without him?

His father took the corner, entering into what he assumed was the living room and he followed, padding behind him.

"Who's your guest?" He heard a nasally voice echo cheerfully and he took that as his cue to walk in.

His gaze fell on the crowd gathered in front of him, especially at the woman who had gone pale white, eyes wide as if she had seen a ghost.

He immensely enjoyed their reactions and it took everything in him not to burst out laughing. Instead his lips curled into a wide in splendid satisfaction.

This was even way better than he planned.
