Chapter 68

"I know it hurts, sorry," Rosa muttered, dropping the stained ball and picking up the kittens designed bandaged.
She hadn't realized that her nails would do so much damage to her skin and didn't know that Rosa noticed that she was bleeding from her hand either. After her declaration, her mother had sent her to the guest room while Aunty Clara remained silent, with an awe-stricken expression.
Honestly, she didn't know why she did that. She would've gone with the lie but it wouldn't be fair on Matt or Ryan either.
After she was done, she looked up and her lips pursed together. Aurora tried for a smile but the side of her face hurt too much to do that,
"Is it that awful?"
Rosa blinked and she caught a shimmer in her eyes, Aurora sighed, using her good hand to hold the woman,
"You know I hate it when you cry," Rosa just nodded, pretending to search the first aid kit for something, "I'm fine, honestly."
That made Rosa pause, slowly looking up at her. The older woman chewed on her bottom lip contemplatively,
"It's not fine," She finally relented, her voice cracking, "She has no right to hit you or treat you that way. For goodness sake, you're the victim here! Not only are you getting married against your will, you had to suffer in the hands of that psychopath and now this!"
Rosa was making exaggerated movements in the air with her hands and it caused a warm feeling to bloom in Aurora's chest. It was heartwarming to know that at least someone genuinely cared for herm
"Oh, Rosa," She curled her arms around the woman's neck, leaning into her comforting scent. Rosa paused for a second and then she sighed before returning the hug.
Rosa patted her back gently, running her other hand through her soft curls, "I wish there was something I could do. You don't deserve this kind of life."
Tears welled up in Aurora's eyes as she said that but she held it back, she wouldn't allow herself to break down in front of Rosa. Knowing the woman, she would just cry along.
"You know what I think," She pulled back as she said this, taking Rosa's hand in hers, "In my next life, if I'll ever have one, I want to be your daughter."
That surprised the woman and a chortle escaped her parted lips, "Mi hija? Why?"
She shrugged, "You make a damn good patissier."
Rosa guffawed and she laughed alongside too. Thankfully , she stayed for a while and they discussed about random things, including Rosa's granddaughter who would be graduating from high school next week. By the time they finished talking, it was past nine already and Rosa left her so that she would sleep .
Aurora didn't want her to go but she knew she had no choice, the woman was likely stressed and she needed to sleep as well. Now that Rosa was gone the silence became even more jarring.
She rose to her feet and took the bold step towards the mirror, when she sat on the chair to examine her reflection better, her lips parted slightly. Her mother had a strong hit, the side of her face was blossoming a dark red and there were tiny dots of red.
Her eyes flickered to the ice pack Rosa had brought for her and it brought another wave of tears to well up. Her throat constricted to the point that it hurt to swallow and she fisted her fingers together.
When Aurora couldn't hold it back anymore, she allowed herself to cry. Her lips trembled and her shoulders racked as she sobbed,
"W-Why?" She asked nobody in particular but she wished someone would answer.
Why did she have such a shitty life? Why could she never be happy? What did she do to deserve this?
These questions were on the tip of her tongue but there was no one to answer them and it made her hate her life even more. Whoever was in charge of it was doing a terrible job.
Her phone buzzed suddenly and she whipped her head backwards. Her eyes narrowing suspiciously, she hadn't looked at her phone since afternoon and mostly because she was tired of seeing the comments and posts on social media.
But the buzzing wouldn't stop so she eventually sighed and trudged towards the bed. When she saw the caller ID, her heart skipped her beat and her eyes widened a fraction,
She answered the call without hesitation, "Hello?"
"Flower," His velvety voice almost brought her knees to crumble so she grabbed the edge of a chair for support, "Can you come out?"
The tears came up again and she dug her teeth into her bottom lip, "Yes, yes I can."
She ended the call after that and grabbed her jacket and then her purse before rushing out the door. Her footsteps padded against the floorboard, after much persuasion from her mother she had decided to sleep in the guests room and it was much better than her previous room since it was far from Evan's bedroom.
When she got to the door that led to the backyard, she quickly slipped on the flats she'd grabbed earlier and then proceeded to unlock the door.
"Aurora?"
She froze, her shoulders stiffening as she slowly spun around, catching Rosa's confused glance.
Rosa eyed her up and down, slowly accessing and her heart thrummed fearfully. She clutched the knob as if it was some form of life support,
"Go but make sure you're back within an hour."
Her eyes flew open and her lips parted in shock. Rosa smiled warmly, urging her to run,
"Go now, I'll cover for you don't worry."
Aurora smiled, "Thank you," She pushed the door open and stepped out into the cold, "Thank you, Rosa," She repeated before speeding out into the night, the night's air whipping at her cheeks.
Just as she'd expected, Ryan was waiting for her at the end of the hill, a black helmet in hand. When she stopped in front of him, his lips quirked a bit and he took a step forward.
She stood still as he helped her latch the helmet on and then stepped back, "Come on."
Aurora nodded, climbing in after him. He kicked the engine to life and it rumbled loudly, she instinctively wrapped her arms around his waist and before she could blink, they were speeding out into the dark.
