The rain pounded relentlessly. For some reason, Cassian felt increasingly anxious, a restlessness growing inside him.
Rouise lay on the hospital bed, her face pale. She gazed worriedly out the window. "Luna probably didn't mean it. The rain is so heavy—she'll get sick."
Cassian's frown deepened.
"No, she did it deliberately. She's jealous and deceitful. She doesn't deserve to be Luna. She needs to learn her lesson."
His voice faltered slightly. "Besides... a little rain won't kill her."
Rouise coughed delicately. Seeing her weakness, Cassian's heart ached, his resentment toward Lyra intensifying.
He dismissed Lyra's words in the rain as another ploy for sympathy.
Not going to cling to him anymore?
As if she could actually follow through. Just another tactic to get his attention.
Being Luna was Lyra's only path to status. She would never truly walk away.
Lyra is manipulative, Cassian thought bitterly. I'll never acknowledge her as my Luna.
The butler entered quietly.
Cassian stood by the window. "Has she admitted her mistake?" His tone was flat.
"She was... taken away by someone," the guard reported.
What!
"Who would dare?"
"Couldn't see clearly. A man."
At that moment, his wolf, Caleb, suddenly stirred in the depths of his mind.
Since rejecting his Luna, Caleb had remained silent.
Now he sighed softly: "Cassian, you will regret this."
Regret?
Cassian couldn't identify the emotion churning inside him. He gritted his teeth stubbornly.
"Within a month, she'll come crawling back."
Just like always.
His confidence was absolute.
Caleb shook his head and faded away. Cassian had always been this arrogant.
Cursed by the Goddess, Cassian possessed immense power, while Caleb remained weak.
He could never override Cassian's decisions.
The butler handed Cassian an elegant envelope.
"Sir, Alpha Fenrir of Moon Shadow has invited you to his engagement celebration next month."
"Fenrir's Luna?"
"No, sir. An Omega, I believe. They say Alpha Fenrir is quite taken with her. He's rushing the engagement."
Cassian dismissed it. See, he thought, not all Alphas need their fated Lunas.
He ordered some appropriate gifts prepared, then tossed the invitation aside.
